  2. Weird day here today. The Farmers are protesting and have blocked the motorway and major roads, so we noticed a bit more traffic through the village this morning. Anyway, we went across to the hyper Market in Narbonne a while back to get our weekly shopping. They had half the checkouts shut and a lot of security guys patrolling the place. The store itself was pretty quiet compared to normal, so we got our shopping and paid for it pretty quickly and headed home. The roads were unusually quiet, but we use the back roads to get across there. I'm thinking that the main roads around Narbonne may have been a different story! I'm now waiting for the stories to come in about rioting and cars etc being set alight!

  4. No chance I can keep up with Pete's record of previously owned bikes... but I'm pretty sure I still have my "Potcher" status as I've been called before... in other words, I ain't afraid to turn a spanner & I don't have a "Tommy the Tool" to do the work for me...just like a few of you chaps. So I counted up the one's I've owned...came out to about 25 bikes over a 28 yr. period. Still have 2 left that I'm about to finish up & plan to deliver to a coupla worthy recipients...my brother & my youngest boy. So here's a few of my favorites.... My brother is getting the Sumo....tried to sell it for over a year for only $2500....not 1 bite, as it's a kick only thump. Society these days are full of nothing but pussies that can't handle NOT having the start button on the bars! My brother is 6'-4" & a helicopter crew chief who definitely knows his way around a wrench...he's my "Go To" guy when I'm stumped with mechanical woes. Perfect Recipient-- My youngest boy, I couldn't be more proud of as he's a home owner, business owner & about to become a Dad in another month or so.... this was his 9th birthday present that I've gone completely through.... can't wait to see him teach his kids how to ride it! This post wouldn't be complete w/o this "Party on 2-Wheels" that was an absolute blast to ride.... Then there's the bike that started my Red/White affliction... rode it daily for 13 yrs. through every weather condition possible here in the PNW....including an earthquake whilst doing a good buck & a quarter on the freeway heading to work one morning.... 1 of thee scariest moments of my entire life! Now, this one really put the "FUN" back into riding for me....went to new/different places more than any other bike prior.... Then age & the need to carry the misses along as she rode as well for awhile.... found this beast just down the road from where I lived. I also did a 2500 mile trip down to AZ & back in only 98 hrs. That was a blast-- Then there's this Taiwanese job that was the last bike I actually rode....actually had Honda motor & an awesome front brake. I high-sided this beast on the way back from the upper Clackamas river about a year before MRSA hit me. Almost died from that off.... & still to this day feel aches & pains from that accident. So, what bikes have you lot owned that are memorable?....

  7. On Wednesday the sun was shining the temperature was ok so I dragged the bike out of the garage early. loaded up and went for a ride to meet up with some friends for lunch in Cortas de Pallas which is in the mountains to the west of Valencia. The roads around that area are great biking roads. When i got home 300 kms later I noticed that my total for January already outstripped my total mileage for the whole of last year, Was that a bum year or what? In January last year the bike had its first ITV (mot) as it was four years old I took the crash bars off as I had added them after I bought the bike and as fellow Spanish dwellers know we have a sort of type approval thing going on here. I was going to put them back on but I never got around to it, it might be just me but I think the bike handles a bit better without them.

  8. Stopping at a very nice supermarket before heading to a friend’s place for dinner. Dangerous place to shop, and my kind of shopping bag: cheese, prosciutto, bread, wine, whisky, and cigars

  13. Decent weather here...... However, tomorrow I go to Albox! Here's a memory from 2014 when I used to go down on the bike......just for teabags! And Sunday I should be back in action on the bike after 2 months of being sidelined! But it isn't all good news cos I'm going to be seeing @Skippy in Almeria province! Hopefully he won't have any fucking bike problems! What you lot up to?

  37. When I was writing my post above I was wondering if you were serious in your posts or just trying to get a reaction, hence the content, but oh wow, you really do seem to believe it. since you have been rattling on about cooking lamb I suggest you do a bit of research about the physics of heat transfer. When you put your dinner in the oven there will be a heater somewhere in there which heats up the air in the oven and fan to circulate it around your leg of lamb. Leg of lamb is in direct contact with hot air and heat transfer occurs by conduction. There is no atmosphere on the moon so there is no medium to allow heat transfer by conduction. The ambient temp in space is close to absolute zero. When you step out of shadow into sunshine the heat you are feeling is the suns radiation, much like putting your hand under an infra red lamp or those radiant heaters you see outside pubs. Next time you are out for a beer try putting a bit of a Mylar heat blanket between you and the radiant heater. Surprise surprise you will find the heating effect disappears. Anything light coloured or reflective with achieve broadly the same effect. Space suits contain multiple layers of reflective material just for that purpose, and its occupant will be wearing clothing containing water tubes the circulation of which can be adjusted by the wearer to heat or cool as required. Have a look at the design of the James Web telescope ( unless you think that is a conspiracy too). For it to function correctly the telescope side needs to be as close to 0 kelvin as possible. The other side which faces the suns radiation is 400k or so. To get from 400k down to 40k or so all you need are 5 layers of very reflective Mylar type material. Body temp at 37c is 310kelvin.
