Looking back on 2021.......

.......what sort of year was it for you? Or to put it more specifically.......how bad was it?

It was the year we lost our rights as European citizens, and then spent the best part of 5 months locked in the fucking town.

I did get 3 vaccines though (4 if you count flu) and I did manage to get a slightly better work/life balance.......still a bit more to do on that though.

Like last year, we had numerous Hospital/Doctor appointments due to the wife's osteoarthritis, and we still didn't get to see our grandchildren in Poland.

What was different to other years though was that there were no bike changes. Been a very long time since that happened!

And of course we did get an influx of new members here earlier in the year......though looking at the names I'm not sure if that was a positive or a negative.

So all in all, not a lot of change for me! Is 2022 likely to be any better? Given the state of the world we live in now, I wouldn't get my hopes up!

So what's 2021 been like for you?

Its over already? 😃

I don't think anything major is going to happen in the next week or so Tym.

Certainly nothing that's going to put 2021 in a positive light.

I did pretty good. Work has been annoying but overall it turned out a pretty great year work wise, for me. Did a couple of great rides around Portugal, didn't turn out as expected but rode 10000km in 6 months so I guess I did more than I think.

Emotionally, it's been an emotional rollercoaster and it's getting tiresome as I'm a little tired of dealing with my own moods, I'm in need of a couple of days by myself alone at home.

I do hope 2022 brings a little more border relaxation and a trip to Morocco.

work was better this year than last, more of it and better organised.

Me too for the 3 injections. endless hospital visits and exams due to knee and shoulder problems

lost mother in law in march so every major event this year has been "the first time without..." and Christmas will be the first at home with no family other than the 3 kids.

apart from that ( and the verious lockdowns earlier in the year) nothing special.

Will 2022 be any better?

I do hope so.

Yeah, it's been a strange year, but not all bad.

On the plus side:

We got our residency permits and healthcare registration done.

I got a bike earlier in the year.

We moved out of rented accommodation into our own home.

Got our vaccination and booster done.

Mandy got a job.

We managed to get away for a weeks holiday.

We both got seen by specialists for our medical conditions and receiving ongoing treatment.

We've been able to get out and enjoy the countryside.

On the negative side:

We've not been able to get back to see family for over a year now.

Lockdowns at the beginning of the year were a bit of a pain.

Mandy's car got twatted by the garage and took too long to get sorted.

Got fucked about by our house buyer at the beginning of the year.

Mandy got diagnosed with high blood pressure, but is being monitored and treated for it.

So, the good bits outweighed the bad bits for us I think.

It made me laugh when all you heard at the end of 2020 was that things were going to be  back to normal in 2021……….no chance!

So, 2021;

- on the bike front I had a major clusterfuck with the old TL000S and having gone to the trouble and expense of getting it over to Spain at the end of 2020 and running sweetly the thing had to go back to Blighty to be sold (which it did quickly). Bought a scruffy but fast-as-fuck old CBR600F3 to ease my need for speed. Lastly, the Himalayan soldiers on taking me to places I’ve never been and generally making me laugh out loud every time I ride the thing; it’s slow, heavy and rather noisy in a death rattle kind of way but I can’t bring myself to sell it (yet?) 😝

- sold the house at last and the deposit has been paid with completion on 17th January next year. Can’t wait to be gone and it’ll save me doing jail time for my cunt of a neighbour.

- father-in-law passed away suddenly which made it awkward for my wife as they hadn’t spoken for over five years.

- I catch up with my dad once a week via a video call but I haven’t seen him for nearly two years now. I’ve never been very close to my parents but I feel guilty nonetheless as time seems to be going quickly.

- had a vasectomy at the age of 62………seemed like a good idea at the time just like the time I bought a Ducati Multistrada 😝😝

……….and for 2022, if we can stay healthy, find a nice place to live and spend a bit more time with the people I truly value I’ll settle for that…………and maybe a new bike? 🤪

My year this year has been up and down what with jobs going tits up and the like but having got my class 2 licence it seems to all be working out OK now,  hopefully everything with covid will start calming down abit as its just getting silly now.

Next year will be trying to get over to Pete's for a week or so and get my track bike up and running so I can get back to trackdays.
