@Clive, costing me 55€ to do a one way trip that would have been 500km in a motoway, in first class, which isn’t really first class. Taking way longer, and a half hour stop to change trains in Lisbon, but I don’t think I can really complain about the price. I don’t get the thing about trains, but then again some people don’t get the thing about bikes either so there you go. Took care of a british dog while he patiently sat next to me while his human went to the wc, that put a smile on my face. After 5 and half hours wearing a mask, I took to the restaurant wagon for an expresso at sunset as an excuse for a breather6 points

I gave up driving into London eventually and took the train from the local station. £40 return plus £6 to park the car at the station, but at least I could bung it on expenses. 50 minutes by train or 2.5hrs by car, so that was a win in my book!5 points

I needed to borrow a truck once so a buddy said I could take his but to leave my car as he needed to go into town later, I parked on his driveway, left him my keys and took the truck, when I got back my car hadn’t moved, when I asked why he had not used it he said he got in then realised it had too many pedals so he cancelled his appointment and went back in the house to hit himself with a hammer.5 points

Do you like this one, 1984 325e, giving it to my nephew. Going to be his first car.5 points

I remember another time i couldn't see an owl i was in a petrol station in Bonvilston many years ago i had just paid for fuel and the guy serving me said have you seen our owl i said no wondering what the hell he was on about, he said go in there and have a look, it was a barn type building alongside the garage, in i goes and looks everywhere up in the rafters, window sills shelves on the walls everywhere i couldn't see it. Went back to tell the guy i couldn't see it and he said its definitely there have another look so back in i goes thinking this guy is taking the piss out of me looks around again couldn't see no damn owl by this time i'd lost interest and some leaflets caught my eye on the table in front of me when i turned to look there was the owl on the table a few feet from where i was standing it was a barn owl just sat there didn't move seemed quite tame i went back to the guy and said i wasn't expecting it to be sat in front of me so didn't see it.4 points

Weather looks perfect for a ride, had a week of work and the plan was to go on a longish ride tomorrow, ending back home. However, my dad felt worse again this morning, and am now planning to get on a train in an hour to go to the Algarve, and then bring them both back in his car as soon as possible, a couple of bitch slaps might be in the cards to break him out of being stubborn. Portugal's trains are amidst a partial strike though, and I´ll be stopping to change trains in rush hour Lisbon. Oh, the joy!4 points

Doing oil change, rear diff change and a new set of tires this weekend in prep for the August trip east. At least that's my goal - probably won't do much more than just buying the oil.4 points

I have hit a new high, I have been accused of being a woke, cancel culture leftist by the resident conspiracy nut job at the Harley U.K. riders club. Obviously I tone it down a bit for that lot as they are a bit genteel but I still call people nut jobs when they are nut jobs, but I have arrived now. I’m going to get myself subscribed to Marxist Monthly and live the life now.3 points

The stands are one of the things they’ve fixed on the latest Himalayan. They were rubbish. Rode with 12 others on Himalayan’s and a the end of the ride only 1 person had a functioning side stand3 points

Well, we just lost his sister to cancer, suddenly things like keeping this car dont mean as much as they did to me before, especially if it just sits and gets moldy. Letting him have his grandmothers car for some freedom and adventure in life is The least i can do right now..3 points

As i kid i was in a quarry below my parents house with my father and he said to me look at that Owl pointing at the ivy covered quarry wall and for the life of me i couldn't see it he kept pointing saying by there look i was at a loss i thought he was winding me up and then the owl moved it's head it was less than eight feet from us and huge i would never have seen it if it hadn't moved it blended so well with the background3 points

I love the centre stand on my Himalayan, one of the things Royal Enfield got right! The other day in a parking lot I was putting it up on the stand, because the side stand works 10% of the time (bad lean, almost no lean), anyways this older guy comes over and was so happy to see someone using a centre stand that he had to mention it......lol3 points

None of the vaccines have ever claimed to be 100%, so some people who have been vaccinated will still catch it and become severely ill or die, but the majority will be able to mount an effective immune response to it once vaccinated. That doesn't mean that they can't catch it or become ill, but their immune system now knows how to react to it if or when they catch it. Anyway, some restrictions are being restored down here as the levels are on the rise, which is no surprise due to the massive influx of holidaymakers here at the moment. There's a good percentage of Dutch, Belgian and German cars around, as well as a good many French cars from different departments.3 points

All I know is the NC 750 that I had a test ride on was the most boring bike in the world, the MT 07 knocks into a cocked hat3 points

They do say this , but it’s a bit of a myth, i cut one in half and it didn’t run that well to be honest .3 points

But he’s ok now … we all know you can still catch it even being doubled vaccinated, the point is the death rate is no where near what is was before vaccinations, so what does that tell you ?3 points

This weekend looks bearable for me.......though next weekend is shaping up to be a bit unpleasant. I'm going to try and get out early both days if possible, as at the moment I've cleared all the work I've got on. Have to go check out some abandoned shit on Google Earth and see what shows up. What are you lot doing? Try and do something interesting, so we can at least get some inspirational content on the forum other than bikes in fucking vans!2 points

this is what he said about it... hardly at deaths door " If I felt shattered on the Monday, it was hardly a surprise - but I carried on with life. By Tuesday, I felt I was coming down with a summer cold - sneezing, sore throat, slight headache. But in the middle of hay-fever season, it seemed nothing at all ominous. "2 points

Well we aren’t get that many deaths, and most people with covid are supposed to be the younger ones at the moment, plus the main variant here is delta, so they appear to work ok.2 points

My mate has a GS750 rusting in his dad's front garden. But it was lovely back in the 80s, he'd bored out the engine to 850, fitted a lengthened swing arm and put some wheels from another Suzuki on it to give better tyre choices. It had big wide handlebars and an Eddie Lawson style seat. He painted it white with 2 tones of blue stripes on the tank, gas board colours we called it when taking the piss. I so wanted to ride that bike, but he wouldn't even let me sit on it. Then the engine went bad after a few years so a second hand 750 unit was fitted. Then he repainted it in garish dayglo colours and put ape hangers on it. It started winning rat bike prizes at rallies. The only picture I have of it back then has most of it out of view. This is Martin and his girlfriend in approx 1985, he's sitting on the GS, my other mate's Honda Silverwing (500) is behind them. His dad is nearing the end of his life at the moment and they have introduced a controlled parking zone in his street. Suddenly the tiny drive needed to be cleared so the carers could park without getting a ticket. It took some effort but it moved eventually after sitting under a cover since about 1992.2 points
