  1. Had a slightly longer spin out this morning as it was cloudy for the first part of the morning so it kept the temperature down to a manageable level. Some great views around here………..might pop over to the nudist beach next time

  2. Well new tyres fitted and rattle diagnosed. So some progress with Shadows Bike. Tyres were £175 for a set of Metzler Roadtech 01’s fitted which apparently are the mutts nuts in CB125F terms. I’ve been out on it and they do feel much better but then again new tyres always feel better than old tyres. Definitely the best Shadows bike has felt. Also picked the Tech’s brains about the rattle on her bike. Cam chain for sure and he told me how to go about fixing it which was decent of him. Told me not to fuss just do it next oil change as you have to drop the oil to get the tensioner out.

  5. When I had the wheel bearings done the other day the chap who did it mentioned that the CBF600 had odd chain tensioners. Now it has been bugging me to the extent I got another set from a breaker. Only a tenner. Put them in white vinegar overnight to clean them up and get rid of any corrosion. Will thoroughly rinse them off degrease and paint them tomorrow. Get them on Friday hopefully. Only a small thing but it’s the sort of shit that makes me happy

  11. Four guys were at hunting camp. They had to bunk two to a room. No one wanted to room with Daryl because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn’t fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns. The first guy slept with Daryl and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. The other two said, "Man, what happened to you?" He said, "Daryl snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night." The next night it was the second guy’s turn. In the morning, same thing happens again, his hair is standing up, eyes all bloodshot. The other two said, "Man, what happened to you? You look awful!" He said, "Man, that Daryl shakes the roof. I sat up and watched him all night." The third night was Frank’s turn. Frank was a big burly ex-football player; a man’s man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright eyed and bushy-tailed. "Good morning," he said. The other two couldn’t believe it! He looked rested and wide awake. They asked, "Man, what happened?" He said, "Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Daryl into bed, patted his butt and kissed him on the cheek good night. Daryl sat up and watched me all night."

  14. Have you ever thought about buying your daughter a Transit, @Saul? She could drive the CBF to places. Take a page from Six’s book.

  18. It’s about 35 Celsius, not forgetting the hottest part of the day is later here. Typically, it could be any time between 1 pm and 4 pm and it’s almost guaranteed to hit 40 Celsius at some point.

  21. Update! This definitely improved things as in reduced the amount oil in the air filter but didn’t cure it completely. Last week I saw that S&S had come up with anew breather design that they officially say significantly reduces oil blow past in the breathers, unofficially they say it cures it completely so on impulse I reached out and bought a set which they discounted for me. I got them yesterday. They ooze quality but hopefully not oil. I will fit them next week.

  26. Here we go again. Shadows off the road. . To be fair it probably wasn’t her fault this time she just picked up a 50mm wood screw. The annoying thing is that it went through into the tyres sidewall making it unrepairable Also the front tyre is all but on the wear bar so better to do the set. Looking at around £130 for a set plus fitting. Rang the local guy who will see what he can get, Hopefully get the wheels done on Tuesday. Fecking bikes are keeping me poor. Just checked the odometer and she has done 12,000 miles since last October.

  27. So today was the shakedown ride, I was only going to do fifty miles but did twice that, it was too nice out. Went exploring the kingdom of Fife. I aimed the bike at every joint in the road, every rut, every bit of banding to see if it would get upset but it shrugged it all off. It feels like I have new tyres. A little bit of extra vibration at tickover and at about 3000 rpm which was expected, more a buzz than anything, that should disappear after 300 to 500 miles. I was definitely barreling into corners on the way back, the handling feels rock solid.

  28. Mandi did that on her xs250 some years back, smoked the exhaust off before it stopped a little way up the Rd. We did have a diesel car at that time so I didn't take the piss too much.

  29. Remember this post when I was all chuffed with myself for sorting the bike out. It's been long enough now and I have got over what happened on the first run out after the service. Shadow was still off the road so we went up to Damerells for her favourite Sausage sandwich then for a bimble about for 60 miles or so. Ran like a dream but when the fuel light came on I dropped in the garage and filled it up. About a mile later the it conked out. WTF. Anyway turns out I filled it up with diesel. Bloody self inflicted disaster. Only about 3 miles from home so I got the Mrs to collect Shadow and called the AA. I talked to the dispatcher and explained what happened. He said I was in luck as they now offer a refuelling service where they drain the tank and put 10 litres of E10 in. I was interested but not at the £190 they charge for doing it. So I said no thanks and asked to be recovered home. The dispatcher said fine but there maybe a charge for that if the Patrol man has to go and get a trailer to put the bike on. I said there better not be as I already pay for my bikes to be covered. Patrol man turns up after an hour, which I thought was pretty good, and surprisingly he was already equipped with one of those fold out transformer type bike trailers. A fiddle to put together but clever bit of kit. He was a biker, good as gold and offered to drain the tank for me gratis if I signed a disclaimer form. He checked with his control who said he wasn't allowed to do that anymore. Of course not money grabbing B'stards. So he dropped me home and advised me to syphon out the trank, drain the float bowls and let it smoke out with some fresh fuel. Which I did. His off the book advice was that the worse that was going to happen was the carbs/fuel system would have a bit of a flush type passive clean through. Very helpful guy. So now a few weeks later and a fresh tank of fuel and it's running lovely so all ended well. I'm over the embarrassment and annoyance at my stupidity now, enough so to tell you lot about it. Of course my mates haven't mentioned it at every opportunity since. Also still a bit pissed off with the AA's upselling stance when you call them. I pay £20 a month for their service to cover me and the Mrs, bikes included. I expected better. And yes it's the first time I have ever done that

  30. New swing arm bearings and spacers are in, it's nearly as hot outside as where @Six30 will go when he pegs it. Just cooling down then the swing arm goes back in with the new improved swing arm pivot.

  33. No mate she is a biker. She was tracking the new front brake lever that was being delivered today, by the time the delivery driver was three stops away she had her full bike gear on waiting. As soon as I fitted the lever she was gone out after 8 days off the road. 108 miles later she was home knackered because she has work tomorrow. Me and the Mrs are referring to her as Shevel Knievel now. She has had the lecture several times and knows another claim means she will be off the rood as she will never get insurance again for several years. I hope for her sake it sinks in. Oh and I don't have a problem riding my bikes to where I want to go, don't need a van.
