  1. Well, the rain and wind storm they were calling for sure has arrived. I had a really busy week and I'm thinking it is best to just relax today. So I started a warm fire, made some more coffee and now I'm working on a new Grasshopper's Path video.

  5. I know what you mean about riding with more powerful bikes, if the road opens up it’s impossible to stay with them but when it’s tighter and if you carry some corner speed all that additional power is redundant. The range of bikes I ride alongside on tarmac includes a few Triumph Tigers, the new Triumph Trident, Africa Twin, Yamaha MT07 (very fast lad, ex-motorcrosset), Benelli TRK502, and a few custom bikes. It’s rare that I’m last to get anywhere but that requires having faith in the bike, reading the road well and………..caning the tits off the Himalayan (and it still does 90mpg!) When I get bored with their antics I just cut across country and ‘explore’.

  12. @Slowlycatchymonkey how about a second hand KTM690 Enduro R, fairly tall but again they sink a fair bit once you get on. Great bit of kit off road and plenty of grunt on the tarmac………but that seat is truly awful. Mind you, I rode mine from Burgos in the north of Spain to our house down here on the south east coast in one hit. Couldn’t walk properly for a couple of days Anyway, loved it and I’d have another in a heartbeat.

  15. Good bikes that’s for sure, ditch those wheels and replace with some nice lightweight spoked ones and you’d have some credibility.

  16. A CRF250L will do all you're asking for or a Rally if you want a bit of weather protection. Don't be worried by the seat height as they sink as soon as you sit on them. The 23bhp won't over excite you but beleive me they thrive on revs and can be hustled along when needs must.

  19. Honda serviced, even though when I turned up at the allotted time they said that they couldn't find the booking! So I showed them the email from the sales guy with the date and time. The service receptionist told me to take the bike around to the workshop doors and they took it in and told me to come back in an hour. Weather not looking too bad for the weekend, so we'll see what we can get up to.

  20. What's your inside leg measurement @Slowlycatchymonkey and before the perverts start it's an important factor when choosing a bike with off-road capability.

  21. A lot of folk have been wise enough to only book ‘flexi’ deals that allow you to simply move it to another date. The holiday industry after pissing everyone off keeping their money first time round have bitten themselves in the arse because everyone is wary of booking with them again so had to offer some sort of Covid proofing to entice people back.

  25. Im happy with the Himalayan but 2 bikes massively mismatched on the power front can cause the person on the faster bike quite some irritation.

  29. What about this silly cow in Machynlleth https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/covid-jab-holiday-retreat-ban-21532284 Blaeneinion's full announcement "With great sadness we have made the decision that we will be unable to welcome folk on site that are 'vaccinated' with the experimental CV19 jab. Significant reports are emerging of effects on unvaccinated people simply spending time around the 'vaccinated'. As you may be aware, the CV19 injections are experimental - they are unlike any other previous vaccines and contain a new mRNA technology that causes our own immune systems to manufacture spike proteins. Anyone participating in the 'vaccination' program are involved in a clinical trial. It would appear that these spike proteins can be exhaled or excreted through the skin and are triggering reactions in folk around them who have not been injected. Reactions include nosebleeds in children who have 'vaccinated' teachers, miscarriages in pregnant women, severe bleeding in post-menopausal woman, swelling of the testes in men, the death of pets that have been in contact with the 'vaccinated' and other responses. As this is a rapidly emerging and previously unknown situation, we feel that the precautionary principle is best adopted until more is known. "I have a duty of care to my family, to our staff and to anyone staying on site. In addition, it has become clear that anyone participating in this clinical trial invalidates their life insurance policy and our own Public Liability cover does not cover people who have volunteered for medical experiments should they fall ill or injure themselves on site. I am simply speechless.... sending my warmest and abiding love to you all and once more, I cannot believe we have all found ourselves in this situation "Wishing you health and love x"

  31. I go off road with a couple of blokes on XR250’s and to be honest unless you gear them for the road they’re awful. Slow and very uncomfortable on tarmac but useful off road if the terrain gets difficult.

  32. Agree completely. Went to Nick Sanders place with a bunch of women and I was on the Himalayan, I had no trouble staying upfront in lovely Snowdonia because its twisty but its longer distances on dual carriageways and motorways it can become frustrating. We've both experienced it. Ive been on the Himalayan having a lovely time soaking up the view and Mr Slowlys frustrated and vice versa. If we both had Himalayans Id be happy but Mr Slowly isn't up for that.
