why is the modern trend to use O ring chains instead of split link, split link chains are a darn sight easier to get on and off

I'm the last person qualified to answer mechanical queries, but my understanding is safety.

It's years since I had a split link in a chain......and I'd be very apprehensive if I had one now!

O Rings are far superior.....the grease is packed in them. They last so much longer than the old chains we used to have.

But like Tym says they still need checking and lubing.

Used split link o ring chains on my off road bikes just for ease of swap and cleaning.

O ring chains might sap some hp, not sure if it matters or not anymore. ?

They do but x ring helps on the score.

Blimey Lionel are you still in 1979 ?  I have x-ring (superior to o-ring) chains on my bike but they still have a split link to join them.

Poor old Ren's still in 1972!

It's like a fucking episode of "Life on Mars" in here"

I think you are mistaking O ring with rivet link, You can have a standard, O ring or X ring chain with a split link or rivet link. A small angle grinder removes any chain easily and two hammers will rivet a link together easily

Best programme since The Prisoner I'd say Dave!

LOM was better.....I thought ATA went on a bit too long and they were struggling for stories a bit.

But the ending saved it......that was mind blowing!

I'd agree there but Keeley was better to look at.
Have you tried Line of Duty? Haven't watched this last series yet but the previous has been good.
