Brother in law came to the rescue, he has a box of Tork thingies, found one to fit, discs and pads are on, rear brake shoes to do tomorrow, if the weather is OK..6 points

Jumped at the chance of a bimble around North Cornwall today. Only about 80 miles but I was going stir crazy having not ridden for 5 days so it was just good to get out. First stop was at St Thomas just below Launceston Castle beside the River Kensey, a tributary to the Tamar. Didn’t quite make it across the border Fortified farm yard I then headed off to the North Coast and Bude to drop into North Cornwall Motorcycles. Ignorant as fuck in there as usual, 6th time I have been there in the last two years and no one has spoken to me yet. Not that worried as they have a terrible customer service reputation so I would never buy anything there. Still nice to have a look at their stock and it is entertaining that no one ever looks at or talks to you, I would be disappointed if they did now Nice Evel Knievel style Sporty, would never ride such a thing but 1970’s Cool Disney Princess edition Glide thing 9.5k VFR 1200, very nice and not expensive @ 3.6k 4 x 1200 GS’es. 3.6k to 4.2k not sure if that is expensive or not but they were all luggaged up with 40k plus on the clock. Shiny buttons Guerrilla looks nice in red and black. In the flesh it is a nice looking bike, not sure I would spunk £5k for a new one. Maybe in a couple of years time I would pick up a low miles used one. Prefer it to the small Triumph. NCM had some really nice looking interesting bikes in stock, but a lot of them have been there for a long time. Might be that I interested in old stuff but their inventory was mostly old bikes and new Enfield’s. Only modern ish bike I spotted was. 250 Strom.5 points

So I checked behind all the sofa cushions, I tipped out my piggybank and I sold all my wife’s jewelry and I scraped together enough money for a new bike. I put a deposit on it today but it won’t be here till February. …………. it’s a crying shame that Pete isn’t here anymore because he would’ve ripped the piss out of me, mind you I’m sure some of you can do quite well at that anyway.5 points

Another 20 feet further forward and it would have made for an excellent picture.3 points

We are approaching end of November, last chance to win a Bike Of The Month vote in 2024 limited to just one month as December will be extra tough, being mixed with the Bike Of The Year. It'll be of such magnitude that we risk rattling the fabric of motorcycle communities worldwide!!! Don't worry about that before you need to, though. For now, just submit your pictures for November Bike Of The Month, as always: - one picture, your bike - picture taken on a ride, this month - horizontal picture, landscape (Just for Marcel: your phone needs to be laid down when you take the picture) Feel free to submit more than one picture, I will consider the last one you post. This will close on evening of the 28th, at some undisclosed time which will be after dinner for me. We will then start the vote poll which will last until the evening of the 30th.2 points

Certainly, I shall get an invoice over the next few days or when I go back in 1000km to check valve clearances. What, am I going to run away? Probably enough to buy a decent second hand bike in the UK, though.2 points

I am sure as long if all was good you would never see the other side of them. They do have a pretty bad rep down here though. I only know one story first had but have heard plenty over time. Glad it went well for you.1 point

Similar has happened to most people in business, but some relationships go beyond that. And, I can be trusted with that credit, same way as I trust he does all he thinks he needs to do to the bike to make it nice. Goes both ways.1 point

I would have no issue with paying before riding away with the bike. It’s to ease his administration work, it’s all done in trust.1 point

years back fella i knew came on to site with a sob story.... he was skint and needed a car to move his stuff cause he had split with his mrs ..blah blah blah promised he would come pay for the car the following week... 3 weeks later did not hear a thing from him.... found him a few weeks later and got my money... that was the first and last time1 point

It don't work like that here you get your bike back after you pay the bill but obviously if the guy doing the work is a mate that's different. The Honda dealer i was going to in the 90's was great i used to phone up and order all sorts of parts then go and pick them up and pay when they arrived, when he closed his mechanic reopened his shop as a service and MOT shop and he said myself and a few others were the only ones to have that service anyone else would have to pay a non refundable deposit up front before said parts would be ordered. I do have a similar arrangement with the bike shop i got my Beta from1 point

unless its a close pal done it for you ....what twat would let a stranger ride off with out paying for the job just read you rprevious post , he's a buddy , thats different.1 point

If you pay when you god dam like, they won’t treat you this way. But my mechanic has been a friend for many years, he prepared my bike like he would have one of his own, as he knows me and what it means to me, so he can do the work that’s needed and then invoice the stuff after it’s finished. Then he trusts me to pay it. I don’t see that as something difficult to understand between friends.1 point

Failed miserably with the discs, needs a huge Torx thingy to remove the caliper, looks like a garage job for them too.1 point

I may get to do the brakes on the car tomorrow...says 9c and sunshine, i will do the discs and pads 1st, see how I get on with them, then do the rear drums if I have time. As i said, it will have to go into the workshop for the anti roll bar rubbers and oil and filter change.1 point
