  1. Thanks for all your support folks. So, the cardiologist couldn’t see any signs of arrhythmia in the ECG she had today but has seen the results of when she’s had an episode and it’s evident during those periods. He’s now referred her to an arrhythmia specialist so they can try and get to the bottom of the matter. At least it shouldn’t take long to get an appointment but in the meantime she’s to remain on beta blockers and avoid certain foodstuffs and drinks…….no alcohol

  2. Fortunately it’s very simple electronically, unlike anything modern.

  6. Went to pick up my rental bike today, for tomorrow’s trip. We are going to Italy, and there might be shopping involved. Plus, I am likely to ride through showers quite a bit, so was happy to have a very practical big topbox. Got home, had a good look at the bike and didn’t bring myself to ride all around with that thing in the back, took the box and the mounting plate off and am carrying an almost empty bag instead. Tyres are definitely gay, though.

  7. When you say you are going to buy bike parts … she says over my dead body and you realise what has to be done …

  12. I hope she’s ok and all goes smoothly for her, sounds scary to say the least.

  13. No, bought it from the guy that did but he then lost interest so lots of kinks to iron out. It had less than 300 miles on it. As I can’t afford a real one this is the closest im going to get. It’s great fun, tho ( when it’s working) I doubt it would beat a Tesla away from the lights.

  14. Physically take the registration paper, not the bike. Anyway, that’s the price I pay to live in a place where people don’t fry candy bars.

  16. Yes, they had about 4 different prototypes, one of which had the carbs mounted in front of the cylinders.

  17. I would rather not say, the guy is giving me a better rate than usual because of a work relationship with Sofia, more so considering the mileage I’ll do. It’s still expensive, though. I do recommend them, if you fly to Portugal, this will give you a hint: https://motorentour.com/aluguer/ They have a very friendly attitude towards slight off tarmac excursions, obviously within reason.

  19. That happened to my daughter going to the reading festival a few weeks ago, called the RAC and after about 30 minutes it started again before they turned up so she cancelled them and still had to pay the £40, her car's been ok since

  20. I bought one of these a few years ago - huge time saver. Am amazed at how many times I've used it.

  23. Off to the hospital with the missus to speak to the cardiologist about her arrhythmia which has been so bad she’s had to have an ambulance to get her to the hospital on two occasions over the past month or so. I believe there’s an operation she can have which has a 98% success rate and it’s only day surgery. Stressful times.

  25. Broke down, car not bike ... bloody annoying. Fortunately have a recovery policy who gave me a projected wait time of 2+ hrs before the recovery truck could get there, plus apparently it was a £40 excess for recovery .. The tow truck showed up in about 45 mins so can't fault that, and the guy helped me push it into the garage once we got it home. Turns out he used to live in Finland (the place id love to live given the choice) and was a really nice guy. Had a quick look when I got home, fuel getting to the carb OK, carb working OK, nothing obviously wrong with the distributer but that is as far as I got before going out on my bike. I'll have another look at it later in the week

  27. Just saying, I don't need to carry mine if I go to England, Wales or Northern Ireland, there would be no point if you go to Wales because they can't read there anyway

  28. Plus, since the gearbox is coming out, the bearings will be replaced and things will be inspected for wear and changed accordingly, and the timing chains will also be inspected and if over half of slack tolerance they’ll be changed too. Bike should be good for a while after all that, at 122.000 now.

  29. So, I have gotten a rental GS to take to Italy next week. I will be leaving a few days later and making more of a dash to Milan. Probably now not doing any of the mountain passes I wanted to do on the way there since I am not too keen on putting a rental bike offroad, doing that not on my own bike doesn’t have the same appeal. Am very miffed with it, and am considering buying a second bike in the coming months or year. Would have gotten one now in a hurry, but there’s no way I would have the paperwork done in time for the trip.

  31. Turns out my bike's gearbox is coming apart, at least to replace bearings. It's me fucked as I really would rather not ride anything else than my bike. Really disappointed with this. On the other hand, once it's back together it might be something to never touch again. Now to figure out what to do.
