  1. I haven't submitted anything to BOTM for a while cos all the rules about size and shape and post production and when and where and how and who meant that you basically have to take a photo specifically with that in mind. I don't. This one happens to be the right shape, I don't have photoshop and I don't think I made any adjustements to this one before saving it.

  2. I jumped the gun, his train was delayed. He's been , bought it and rode off back to Salisbury. Another H*rley rider converted to riding a reliable Honda

  4. I did manage to get out for a couple of hundred km this afternoon, I rode the back roads up north as far as Nanteau sur Lunain ( long story...) had a coffee in the local boulangerie / café and a chat with the owner and then took the route nationale home. Weather was shit, windy with rain showers. I got the first rain shower about an hour into the ride and though my gear is water proof the temps dropped with the arrival of the rain so I pulled over at a bus shelter to add the thermal liner to my jacket. Heated grips and new winter gloves bought in Dijon last week, made the rest of the day positively bearable. Great wee bus stop, complete with free library!

  5. A tip for you. If you happen to go to Spain don't venture into any abandoned buildings as there may be a mangy ginger person hiding in wait ...........

  6. Older brother has just been round complaining of a scraping noise when cornering. His mrs pissed up all the way home last night kept telling him its the brake pads. After running it down the road I was thinking a stuck stone as it was noisiest when off the brake which pleased him but once the wheel was off I could see the pads were just touching metal on one pad. He's got to go home now and tell her she was right.

  16. Thank you all for your warm welcoming messages. Just a few more details about myself and the Bike : I'm a noob (and slow) rider despite having the motorcycle driver's license for more than 20 years. The CB500F is my first bike. I bought it with the comfort pack (which includes the Smoked Windscreen, Heated Grips and the 12v Accessory Socket), a pair of Barracuda sliders and added a Puig tank pad that I bought before having the bike. I let it fall while practising slow speed maneuvers and broke the brake lever, so replaced the stock levers by some Puig folding ones. It has now around 5500 km (3415 miles) and it has been great and I enjoy every second I'm on it. As @Pedro said, I commute to work on it (about 50km per day) and ride a bit further on Sundays (when the weather isn't too bad). I haven't done any long trip on it yet, but it will be done someday.

  21. So having seen the sad passing of James Higgs I thought I'd look at his you tube channel and see where his last videos were. He had put up a video of a lane at Naunton on the Cotswolds so today I decided to go and ride it and a few others in his memory. The weather was decent when I left Bristol at 9.00 but by time I got onto the Cotswolds it was quite foggy.......... By time I got up to the old WW2 airfield near Chedworth I was dying for a piss so into the woods I went, while I was there I stumbled upon an old building . @XTreme would have been proud of me but there were no dead dogs inside so I left a bit sharpish ........... I got down to Compton Abdale and there was evidence of how wet it has been ............... I rode through Salperton and onto the first lane which ends at the Notgrove long barrow .................. There was evidence of me bashing through the undergrowth on my top box.............

  25. Love that road, but you're welcome to adjust it if you want. As long as it's this month and horizontal I don't care what you do with it. I don't get how your bike doesn't get dusty on that, if it was mine on that dirt road it would look like it had just finished a Dakar stage

  26. You wouldn't have heard of him unless you were into trail riding. James was the UK Trans Euro Trail (TET) Linesman. He added the Great western trail (GWT) and the south west wales route of the TET (TETie) and several other detours to the TET routes and maintained the routes for several years. He was the man behind Wiltshire Byways the invaluable YouTube repository for clips of green lanes around the UK. He also helped fight some significant green road closure attempts, most notably the byways around Stonehenge. The TET is a 62,000 mile GPX route from the edge of Africa to the Arctic Circle which is enjoyed by tens of thousands of motorcyclists every year and is free https://transeurotrail.org/what-is-the-tet/

  32. So no problems there then, motors are electric, they have a rotor, bikes on the other hand have engines, (internal combustion) so the sign doesn't apply to them, I wish we had lanes here.

  33. After a swift coffee from my flask I rode down to Naunton to ride the lane that James had ridden three months ago ........... Then i rode some more lanes in the area.............. and then onto the fords at Kineton. The concrete exit ramp nearly caught me out here as it was very square-edged and caused me to stall on the exit but luckily i started quickly and got away without dropping the bike ........... and then I rode some more lanes before turning south ............. This one was annoying as it had SIX gates along it, a pain in the arse when you're on your own ................ At the end of Ryknild street I came across this , what's going on when Crocuses are growing in October ? and then I rode some proper green lanes to get back to the Fosseway north of Cirencester............. I also found a new (to me) lane on the way back ............. and then stopped at my cross to get a photo ............ and then the rest of the way back was spent dodging showers...............
