  1. I was out for a few hours as temps were perfect at 24C......ended up turning off the main road near Barranda and going along some rural roads I've never been on. You get a few isolated farming properties here and there but apart from those you won't see any sign of life! Obviously I found some abandoned shit......but not as much as I expected! Ended up on a road I'd been on before....... .....and some ruins I'd visited in the past at some point. But this time there were decomposing farm animals strewn around the place......fucking stinking it was! About 100 miles in all........makes a nice change not to sweat my nuts off! Please note the absence of a van.......cos I believe in keeping it real!

  5. One springs to mind and also one I've never admitted to...until now. Was on a trip to Germany in 2016 and left early on a Saturday morning to head back to the UK from Neuerburg on my own, leaving the others at the hotel. Leaving the town, there were roadworks so I stopped at the red light and then went on the green as usual. Thing is, the roadworks lane was on the left and when I set off I stayed in that lane and headed down the road totally forgetting where I was until a van came towards me flashing it's lights and beeping it's horn. In a split second I realised I was on the wrong side of the road and moved the bike across to the right so quickly I ended up riding on a grass verge and nearly binned it before pulling over and spending a minute nearly throwing up with the shock. Anyway, got back to Calais in less than 4 hours so the day turned out alright in the end

  10. Hey @boboneleg, if you´re in the neighborhood and fancy popping by, I might show you around a couple of nice roads. Although, bring sport touring tires on the Tenere, one needs a level playing field.

  21. Tomorrow, Saturday, is an off the bike day as we look at some real estate in the area. Might get some pics of that but won't bore you with them. Sunday I'm headed south for 500 miles to Tennessee.

  22. Kind of a depressing place to be. Markers are all of pretty low quality, uniform in size and badly worn despite not being all that old. They'll soon fade away. Some of the large markers were placed by family members after the Asylum was closed.

  33. Actually at some point I'm going to visit the Sierra Espuña for the Abandoned Sanitorium! That's where I was going to see @Skippy. It's been on the cards for a long time, but travel restrictions from Oct to May prevented it......then when those were lifted the wall of heat came down.

  36. And for the "patients" that didn't make it, we have a private cemetery out behind the place. No names on the markers, just numbers. The final disrespect to the mentally ill that lived here. There are 5 or 6 of these cemeteries on the grounds, located on different hills behind the Asylum...

  37. This is another abandoned place that should be in the movies. It housed some seriously deranged people back when I was in college here (1977-81) but was closed in 1980 or so. We sued to go into the buildings and walk around when I was in school. It looked like the people just walked out and left all of the office and hospital stuff behind. Very weird. They are trying to turn it into an artists studio of some sort these days...

  42. Been to Narbonne today. Mandy wanted some new shoes and we needed to get some food shopping done. Tomorrow's plan is to cycle to the next town for lunch to celebrate our first anniversary here. Got wine and beer in, to continue the celebrations when we get home! Sunday? No plans yet, but Mandy's got to leave home at 4am Monday morning to take the TGV to Paris for a meeting, so I don't suppose we'll be partying on Sunday!

  43. October 2016 or 2017, coming back from Morocco: night time, tired, hungry and cold arriving in Lisbon in the rain, my more than half worn Heidenau K60 on a loaded bike letting me know at every motorway offramp and expansion joint why they are known to be shit in the rain. I swear I thought we were going down every time I had to put the slightest amount of lean into a corner.
