Guilty as charged.... @ least 12+ yrs. of rebuilding Bike motors, tuning Ski's & truck front-end repairs....it's like my Mum used to say when I'd beat up on my younger brothers...."You just don't know your own strength" Good news is that I think I found a worthy replacement...

Another possibility is that it's suckin' air somewhere.... @ 1 point I had reseal the intake boot between the carb & the cylinder head. A thin film of Permatex Ultra Black sealant cured the problem.

Those shocks seem like a perfect fit for the situation....

Bleedin' Hot here today....but @ least I dug out my boat from the back of the carport....wash & wax that beast tomorrow.
