  7. So after the puncture/breakdown debacle I was chomping at the bit to see what the cause was today. Out came the rear wheel, the tyre was removed and the culprit was revealed ............ The valve had come free of the tube, that explains the instant deflation. On inspection the area around the valve hole was showing signs of corrosion. Not great on a set of wheels that are only 15 months old The rim tape was also destroyed from riding 7 miles on a flat tyre............... I've cleaned up the rim , mounted a new rim tape, tube and new tyre. I'll carry on with the rest of it on Tuesday .

  11. I'm sure the 250 is an ex Neil Hudson bike. Back in the day before he became World 250 MX champion we used to try and get up the same coal tips as him and his brother at Pensford. Obviously we wern't quite as successful as them two https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Hudson_(motorcyclist)

  12. The No 1, YZ490 was one of those bikes that all my mates said don't buy it you will regret it, well guess what i bought one and they were wrong it was a wicked machine just when i thought i'd sussed it out it would do something to surprise me it was such an adrenalin rush riding it on the dirt and the road sometimes. Broke my first bone on that bike and after i was healed i was back on it doing the same daft stuff the only thing i regret was selling it.

  13. I have taken on board everything that Saul has said and from now on I am going to be only using very refined humour and avoiding anything that may drive away persons of delicate proclivities. There is no doubt going to be a large influx of new members now, all likely to be Honda riders. It's going to be fabulous.

  18. The problem with hydrogen is the same as with electric powered vehicles, we are all looking at the end result which is clean energy but not looking at what it takes to get to the end result. At the moment it takes a lot of polluting energy to produce Hydrogen so unless they can come up with a clean efficient inexpensive way to produce it Hydrogen use is going to be limited.

  40. I wasn't alive then lol but i would have liked it . One of my strangest memory's as a kid was i dreamt the cutting was a tunnel and i was walking through it, later on in life i learnt it was a tunnel and was cut out to make the track into a twin track and using the stone for doubling the width of the viaduct, this is a photo of it My parents house is about where the tip of the crane boom is

  41. Spent today cutting wood and splitting it at my parents home ready for me to burn next winter not a great deal of it will need a lot more I was looking around and there's going to be some shit to move when they pass on lol. All the stone in the walls in these photos was dug out of the ground and built by my father. I did help as a pre teen as well, just looking at what has been dug i recon over the years he's hand dug hundreds of tons to level the land off there is similar work done at the front as well, he also built the house himself with help from his brother and father All the trees to the left here may have to come down as there is a 100ft drop into a railway cutting and they have just electrified the line so falling trees could damage the overhead supply So to make the railways greener by electrifying the line they have to cut all the threes in this screen shot down the ones on the right of the line are on my dads property and they have suggested he's got to cut them down he's too old to give a shit now though lol And these looking the other way

  42. Sorry missed this Pete. Pros on the forum for me are: Some very interesting people who do interesting things, live in interesting places and will talk about it. We can talk about bikes without a lot of the bullshit 180 mph on public roads type stories. Some very genuine people. No tolerance of Pomposity. No Politics, mostly. Some genuinely weird fuckers here. Cons: Those fucking mange photos. Some spiteful pile on type of nit picking, wind ups and bullying. There are a lot of bikes and bike type stuff that people avoid talking about because the pile on culture think they are shit. I think we are missing a lot of interesting content as a result. The sheer volume of homophobia, misogyny and obsession with bumming type comments. I grew up in the 1970's and understand the humour but there are less and less of us now and it just doesn't fly today, if you want to recruit new members and grow the forum. You may not want to change the dynamic of the place. But don't underestimate how many people will walk away from this type of stuff though, even in our own age group. Sometimes being a member of this place feels like a guilty secret rather than something I would recommend to my mates. Now don't take anything I have said as an attack on anyone, it's not meant that way. You asked for what I thought and here it is. I do think this is a great forum with a good community, I enjoy spending time here.
