They also refer t it as optical zoom. I have a digital camera i bought many years ago its pretty good but not having the patience to use it properly i just had it set on point and shoot then phone cameras got better and that's all i use now. Was looking to get a new camera as the picture quality has jumped miles since the one i got. But i could get some good photos when i took the time to set it up better than the phone especially with the zoom it has. The phone doesn't capture the light as good as a camera These are a few photos i took while messing about with it, not the best but much better than the phone. Christ I've had o go back to 2008 haven't used it in a while And this is the advantage of the zoom 10x on this one This castle is in the trees in the above photo

if you're looking specifically at zoom capacities, most codern cameras ( especially compacts but some Bridge models as well) have a mechanical zoom and also a digital zoom, for good quality you want as much mechanical zoom as possible rather than digital zoom, which deteriorates detail quality. That's what I was told by a professional when I was looking at compact cameras. Other than that I am clueless

Of course budget is important, but a photographer friend once told me, it is also how a camera feels in your hands. If you don't feel comfortable with it when you pick it up that is not a good start. You had mentioned a bridge camera, a good place to start. They are always very friendly to use and will get you started. If you find you are looking at a bridge camera on the higher price end, then also look at entry level DSLR's and mirrorless cameras. Those will give you the option to use multiple lens down the road. Maybe you want a larger zoom lens or a macro lens later on. The mirrorless cameras are really nice for travelling. They are light and fun to use. Most also record a nice quality video as well. The cameras these days are easy to learn and have many modes to help you in different conditions. Have fun and let us know what you decide on.

I went to the Sammy Miller museum a couple of years ago. Brilliant place, loved it, definitely going back. It was almost empty (deliberately chose a quiet weekday time) and there was an old guy who kept appearing just slightly off to one side. I didn’t think much of it until we left the building and my friend said you know that guy who was eavesdropping, that was Sammy Miller. Ive thought about it many times since, he was definitely available to chat to and I didn’t bloody recognise him. So annoyed with myself, what an idiot, I was in the Sammy Miller museum with Sammy Miller, had the opportunity to chat to the legend himself and missed it.... I console myself that the things I was saying were extremely complimentary, I understand why he was smiling at me now, at the time I thought I’d just attracted a lunatic He enjoyed listening to me standing in front of his ENORMOUS trophy cabinet raving on about how unbelievable it was and how talented he must be cos it just didn’t seem possible to have so many. He must have competed non stop and won everything, really remarkable.

I had a sneak preview the day before these hit the showroom. Knew a mechanic working for the local, Norwich, stealer. Had a sit on etc. Like Fred said, one Beemer I could own. Although one of my mates has just got himself a new GS and that looks nice too but to much hard earned for me.

I think its a sign of senility that he rode through that chit. My diagNose's is Pre-mature dementia, the signs are muddy butt, clear to me.

He was a good rider him and his mate on a triumph scrambler kept up with me on my 650 all day, when i was talking too him he said he was watching me closely and if my wheels left the ground he had to jam on the anchors pretty damn quick or he was going to be in pain

no time , i only got a few miles up the road ... just as i rode past Brands Hatch noticed few spots of rain on visor.... back home for me.

thanks @Sir Fallsalot I meant OPTICAL zoom, not mechanical, but I just couldn't think of the word for it. Brain dead having started back to work today after another 4 week furlough ( that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! )

You know they work off road as well i led a group out a few years ago and one of the guys had one that was the first time i saw one

Yes looking at cameras has led to the looking at tank bags which I dont like but if its not easy to carry and easily accessible I’ll soon go off the idea and itll get relegated to the ‘useful if you can be bothered pile’

I was checking my XR over tonight and can say when things look like this its pretty much fucked

I adjusted the chain a couple of weeks ago actually. And I always tend to go by pulling chain off the back of the sprocket, or too many tight spots.
