nononononononno.... Biscuit comes from the French "bis" meaning "2nd" or " again" and "Cuit" meaning "cooked" so by definition a "biscuit" is cooked twice. Legally ( and not a lot of people know this... ) the difference between a biscuit and a cake or pudding ( to be fair, this is english law) is that a biscuit is hard, and goes soft when stale and a cake or pudding is soft and goes hard when stale. ? now you can't say you never learn anything useful on here!

I think logic and people's behaviour are two things that are unrelated at the moment. At a basic level people need to feel they have control, for lack of a better word, over something, anything in their lives and it can be the smallest thing. For some it is their house, or their job, or just how their closet is organized, but they need to feel that they are in command of the situation. Perhaps this is all he has to control and feels the need to do so in strange ways? But logic has left most I feel, long ago.

Sofia's bike has a nice seating position, and is quite comfortable and neutral. I have trouble with the lack of steering lock because I've always had traillies that can turn on a dime, but that's it. It also weighs the same as a Tiger 800 but is way lower.

Most XR400's are a peach to start, mine never gave me any trouble except when I forget to follow one of the three or four steps while it's cold for it's first start in months. Not following those easy steps and then having to kick for 5 minutes is a great way to warm up in a freezing morning, too ... - ignition on and fuel open, increase tick-over a smidge and close choke - decompression open and throttle open, and kick through 2 or 3 times - decompession open and throttle closed, kick 2 or 3 times - find tdc, raise the pedal and kick all the way through, job done, open choke and adjust tick over On that same day it will easily start first or second kick every time, unless you drop it when riding and shut the engine laying over (which you should!), then it's best you just take your helmet off and enjoy the fresh air for a bit (great chance to smoke if you like to ), and then it´ll start first kick. I don't ride it often, I like that it is more reliable on the trail after being left for 1 year stopped than anything modern with a small battery and race derived high engine compression. But the comfort of the button sure would be nice if on a long trip or indeed on those days you try to start it with the ignition off and then it's gym time!

I totally agree with you there Pedro. I mainly rode XR's when I had DR350's and the trail of the XR was much steeper in comparison to the Suzuki. The only reason so many DR350's sold in the UK Over the XR was when it got an electric start. I will never understand why Honda didn't put an electric boot on the 400 ?

I’m with Boboneleg on this, those tyres aren’t up to much. I also still have the stock tyres on the bike and a better set waiting to go on. Not done for the same reasons as you but they’ll be going on now, thanks for the warning ?

It's a classic ' front end washout ' where you have no ' side knobs ' on the tyre to give that direction and stability in loose stuff.

We all like a little lay down once in a while Have you thought about a more aggresive front tyre ? it would help you steer better on that sort of terrain. That was a classic front-end washout.

It was strange, not a hard road, but the dirt turns into a funny mush as the soil defrosts from the winter. I saw a soft spot, went to miss it, my front tire bounced a bit and my throttle hand got nudged and I turned my hand and the back tire caught the muck and spun around. Also, I was worried about the hard road coming up and was looking too close in front of me and not down the road....classic sleepy space out

I had put up a few pics last week when it happened, but things do get lost and forgotten. The Bark Buster twisted, the Double Take mirror bounced off my head and the shifter bent way back. The side rack was a little bent but everything faired fairly well. The crash guards have now been tested on both sides and work great!...lol

yeah, I want him to keep the old one as an "off road" chair that he can use as and when we're allowed back into town. that'd work so lng as we all know what the plan is in advance cos the carers need to know which chair to use for the day cos it's a looong and complicated job getting him into and out of it ( seeting as he can only move his eyes and his left hand a little.
