You're 1 of the 1st UK'rs I've met that actually skis....this is where I learned how to ski... https://skibowl.com/ It was only 50 miles from home...we'd go a handful of times every season...mainly on Friday & Saturday nights. By 7pm most people would pack it in for the night or just head for the bar....so we could do top to bottom runs w/ No lift lines....till 10pm. The cabin in the middle of this pic is called the Warming Hut & it's been there for well over 80 yrs...it's a great feature of this place as you don't have to get ski to the bottom to have a break....have a beer, warm up & then back @ it! My dad put me on a pair of skis there when I was 4 y/o...one of the best gifts he ever gave me.... & my brothers. I've ski'd every ski area on Mt. Hood & the snow has the tendency to be a little heavy & sometimes wet....(known as the Cascade Concrete) but if you can ski it, you can ski ANYwhere. And compared to the snow on the east side of OR, which is noticeably dryer & faster....there's thigh-deep powder sometimes....& is fortunately where I live now.5 points

Do you guys remember when Pete had to put up a cardboard barrier around his bike?....To stop his dog pissing on his bike. I also wonder what happened to the Tortoise and the white duck.4 points

Are those bikes or bike shaped shelving, it's a good job Pete's not about to see this abuse LOL4 points

However, if he waits until after tomorrow it'll be that much more valuable!3 points

Solar power update, I've wired 2 old car batteries parallel to try and gain some longevity. Neither batteries are alike other than coming off cars so I'm not holding my breath. I will invest in a proper leisure battery later but I must admit I'm enjoying pissing about with what's laying around. Wonder if I can hook the misses up to it, prob create a drain.3 points

@YamaHead that looks wonderful, you are lucky to have that on your doorstep ( well almost). We don’t have that opportunity, except maybe if you live in Scotland but even there the snow is hit and miss. We can drive to the Alps but it’s a day of traveling and time wise you might as well fly. The snow is always good here, it’s like skiing on talcum powder and they have it 6-7 months of the year, although it’s often below -20 and sometime -30 (C) so you need good clothing. There are wooden huts dotted about the place which look like a Teepee with a hole right at the top. They have an open fire in the middle, the smoke goes out the top and there is always firewood stacked around the edge. You can go in and warm up or cook something over the fire. Ive been skiing on and off for 50 years, it’s the only sport I’m good at and I can go as fast as I like here, although I’m getting older and slowing down a bit. I’m crap on wet snow and I don’t like it. Always feel I’m going to twist my knee or otherwise damage something.3 points

Let me put things in perspective: In Portugal, a parliament deputy for our far right wing party (similar to Britain First) has just been accused (with video evidence) of stealing luggage in the airport and then selling used clothing items online. He had several stolen suitcases in his office in the parliament building, and a lot more at home Politics is a no go area of discussion on this forum, though.3 points

Weather today was absolutely beautiful. I could just stand there for hours looking at the views, much to the annoyance of my kids. Reindeer burger for lunch and some local beer to round the day off. Poxy GoPro didn’t like the cold and just picked up its ball and went home, shutting off after 30 secs even after being stored on my pocket with a hand warmer. Heated bike gloves work pretty well though, just annoying I didn’t think to bring a second set of batteries as they crap out after about 4 hrs on max. Temp was between 0 and -12 and hands nice and warm most of the time, although after taking gloves off to try to get the bloody GoPro to work they took a while to unfreeze once regloved.3 points

Plenty of times I went with other bikes before. But this month: Clive went to some effort, but the gammon in the background spoils it even though the scooter looks great. Also, I prefer the Triumph to the scooter. I may change my vote just for the effort of going out in the cold to take a picture. The filter on the Hornet's picture almost makes me dizzy. The Beta seems to have been abandoned to die, plus you can't see the bike. You took a picture that consists more of parking tarmac than anything else, with cars in the background. It would be between mine and Sofia's, and I don't vote for myself.2 points

For now, I'll go with Sofia's bike. The sea in the distance, the tail pack, and the bikes got a nice stance.2 points

Gotta admit, that'd give Bob's Vespa a run for it's money. Hmmm...maybe a new thread subject?....Battle of the Scooters. That oughta really make Buck's day.2 points

My wife is from the US so I’d likely get a green card with out to much trouble, and the property looks great , but I’d be a bit to close to my mother in law. I prefer the Atlantic between us.2 points

@YamaHead yeah is that this place is not busy, as you can see from the photos. There are beginners on some slopes but if you avoid those you can really shift along perfectly safely. It gets dark around 4 and all the locals get off work or out of school around then and they rocket along. It’s also so cold the snow is perfect. I’ve never tried the US but I will one day. You guys a spoilt for choice there, it must be wonderful to be able to drive to winter sports places.1 point

I ain’t going to be at the front of the queue to get in with him running the show. On the basis that he managed to get himself elected it could well be Kaley Cuoco or Taylor Swift next …1 point

Yeh, think positive, she will not be here forever. There again my brother in law has been saying that for 20 years, and his mother is still refusing to shuffle off, she is now 102 years old.1 point
