Only had 2 "Cruisers" in the past.... 1st was an '83 XJ 750 Maxim....was great in a straight line, but a handful in the twisties due to the screwy front end geometry. Seriously reliable though...rode it in 13F & snowing before...did surprisingly well because of the rearward weight distribution. Went on a coupla group rides w/ some Harley buddies & kept up with no problem. This beast would do a smokeshow from Hell...don't ask how I know. Then when it came time to sell it....some rat bastard nicked it! 2nd was this Kymco Venox 250...Taiwanese made but pretty sure motor was built by Honda....liquid cooled, 90 deg V-twin w/ Keihin carbs...low, pretty comfortable & economical- 62mpg regularly. Sketchy tires though...I came home from the upper Clackamas river the last time I rode it....went into a LH sweeper doing about 40 mph, the next thing I saw was some guy leaning over me telling me not to move & a LifeFlight helicopter was on it's way. Apparently the rear wheel stepped out & the caught...highsided me & I landed on my right shoulder & neck....damn near killed me. Still feeling the effects of that to this day. This pic was from that ride before I started back home.... A year later is when MRSA damn near killed me... absolutely blessed to still be here. My MetalFab mate that I've been drafting for...for 20 yrs...is Harley guy. At 1 point he had a '96 Buell S1 Lightning...that was my 1st ride on a Hardley power'd bike...140 hp w/ a V&H pipe, in a 53" wheelbase chassis...as short as my RD 400F. It was like riding a 2-Wheeled BigBlock Vette....handled well with great brakes. Later on, he built this chop w/ an 80" motor & a RevTech 6-speed gearbox. The only real parts that were Harley was the motor & the frame down tubes...He fabbed up the rest himself...even had it blue-tagged as a production vehicle. It rode pretty nice...especially with that gearbox...7 points

13F again this morning...w/ a bit frozen fog...reminds me of a few times I slid around in similar condition on my Seca 550 back in the day. It cleared off nicely with plenty of blue sky...so I managed to get the Mullet out for a spin again. I checked out the Trail by the Rail to see if any more progress has been made on it....as they have received another grant towards the completion of it....but no joy yet, but it's always fun to blast down it on the eBike.... So since I had the camera with me, I got a pic of this straight old mid 60's GMC short-wide....I've had 2 of these in the past, but the short-wides are not too common. Blasted camera has some kind of muck on the lens that only shows up when the light is just right...7 points

On the Tourer side of this topic...I also did enjoy running in group rides with other bigger bikes with my '83 VF 750 Sabre. Helluva smooth running motor...it would spin to 10k rpms but at 6k it was just Electric smooth. I did my longest 2-wheel'd adventure on this beast....did 2500 miles in 98 hrs. down to Parker AZ & back...it never missed a beat. At 1 point during that ride, I held it at 120 mph for 20 mins. straight through the NV desert. Can't say enough good things about the Corbin seat either....4 points

It Snowed Last night. 8-00 am : I made a Snowman. 8-10 - A Lady passed by and asked me why I didn't make a Snow woman. 8-15 so I made a Snow woman. 8-18 my female neighbour complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest, saying it objectified snow women everywhere. 8-20 The gay couple living nearby moaned it could have been two snowmen instead. 8-23 I was asked why I hadn't just made a snow person 8-25 The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with. 8-28 I was being called a racist because the snow couple was white. 8-31 The Muslim gentleman across the road demanded the snow woman wear a Burqa. 8-35 The police arrive and say someone has been offended. 8-38 The female neighbour complained again, that the Broomstick on the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role. 8-40 The council equity officer arrives and threatened me with eviction. 8-45 TV crews from the BBC showed up, I was asked if there was a difference between a snowman and a snow woman! I replied " snowballs" and am now called a sexist. 8-50 I was on the news a a suspected terrorist, Racist, Homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather. 8-55 I was asked if I had any accomplices, my children were taken into care. 9-00 Far left protesters offended by everything March down my street demanding I be arrested. Moral. There is no moral to the story, it is what we have become.3 points

So what I am reading here is that if you get a fake Harley they will try to kill you so get a real Harley and live happily ever after.3 points

If you were to have a bike meant for mostly cruise control style of riding, covering some distance on motorways and what you brits call A roads, and felt like having proper comfort, would you be tempted for a cruiser? I sort of feel like test riding a Harley sort of thing with a fairing. Rode a BMW 1600B once, on loan for a day, and found it amazing on the motorway. Don't want to have that as it's too delicate mechanically, but ... what you go for? I tend to not be too impressed by Indian, they always look naff when I look at them in real life. Asking for a friend.1 point

No air box or battery in that drawing? Plus comedy size fuel tank for a travel bike? The rear suspension looks like it came from the 70s. Maybe I'm being harsh, the grass on that drawing looks very nice! Very "Out of Africa"1 point

A certain person has flounced and asked for all their content to be removed, five days of retirement induced a total functional meltdown, there was plenty of inane drivel that you lot didn't see being sent by pm to the mods and admin. By the way if any of you say disrespectful things about said person he will find you and look at you sternly.1 point

Seriously, I think he was lucky to be allowed back on the first time. He clearly has issues and although I wouldn’t wish him any ill I just couldn’t be bothered with some of the bollocks he spouted. Bottom line in my view is that the forum is better off without him.1 point

I'm thinking of buying a new Tenere as mine has a lot of miles on it. But for what Pedro describes, I'd buy a Japanese cruiser of some sort.1 point

Not my style of riding but if it were I would probably go for a Super Tenere, you then have the option of gravel as well1 point

Yes nectar of the gods, but you have to go into it knowing that heartburn and guts ache are part of the deal. Always worth it to me. I have many tales to tell but won't, tis a niche subject Here one of our idiots telling you how to do it. And yes I do sound like that but an octave lower1 point

Add on the weight of panniers, topbox, their contents, maybe a tent and bits and the extra weight won’t make any difference!1 point

26 pounds is 11kg. My 2015 R1200GS Adventure is supposed to be 260kg with fuel, a 2021 R1250GS Adventure is supposed to be 268kg with fuel, so basically they added 8kg with adding clever valve wizardry. They now go through all that effort and revolution to drop 11kg, and that includes a lithium battery that by itself saves a good 2 or 3kg? In effect their revolution makes the ultra light new bike similar in weight to my bike, and ditching a steel rear frame for a pressed sheet one? I see a revolution in profit margins, that what I see1 point
