  14. Thanks, it's so sad that they have such short lives. He passed away in my arms last Monday but I keep expecting to see him come into the room, and then I remember. I still get broken up about it. I hope yours gives you many more years of love.

  15. This morning I went for my flu jab and thought I would take a run out on the bike afterwards, the plan was to go up to the Lammermuir hills. It was overcast but dry and a bit chilly, I think it is time to put the leather away and switch to the cold weather gear as it was on the edge of being too cold even with the jacket liner in. Unfortunately the main road over the hills was closed so I was forced to take a detour, I ended up on a single track road that was quite muddy in places but did take me past a nice farm shop that had good tea for £2.50 a cup. Based on my sense of direction I was convinced the road would eventually lead me to Whiteadder reservoir (pronounced “wittadder”). The road was definitely a sports bike killer, too many switch backs with steep climbs out and bends with sheer drops to the sides. No problem for the superior Harley though. I had to use the passing points a lot. The roads were damp from what I suspect was fog the previous night but the Scottish countryside didn’t fail to impress. The bike as always complimented the amazing countryside. As I headed past Cranshaws I saw a Golden Eagle, a very rare site, it was huge, unfortunately I was riding at the time and it was away by the time I stopped although I did catch some migrating birds. I made my way down and across to the A1 near Berwick upon Tweed and headed back to Edinburgh. Just under a hundred miles, a good bit of two wheeled therapy.

  17. the old one i think was around 138KG so they have found 13KG of extra crap from somewhere to bolt on probably ABS and traction control will be part of that.

  24. I haven't seen any details on the engine but when you add exhaust, abs pump, fi pump etc I suppose that's where the weight is. Still doesn't explain how the Chinese can build the Kove 450 Rally with all that and a fairing and twin tanks and still come in at 145kg . The Japs need to get their act together.

  31. In Europe I would just stop on Vodafone shops and buy prepaid cards. In Morocco, you want Inwi. In Tangier you can buy one easily as you get out of the harbor and into town, any communications shop sells them all over the country. You can them go to any phone or convenience shop all around the country and charge it up using money over the counter, no fuss or need to register. Inwi has great reception and fast data in places where you would think you wouldn’t.

  32. Thanks for the welcome, I will keep you all updated as things progress. I'm planning on leaving the UK around the 18th November or so and make my way down to Newhaven for the ferry to Dieppe. One thing I need is a recommendation for a sim card to cover Europe and Morocco, my own sim will cover me for a few weeks in europe but it gets expensive after that, i was thinking of Lebara?? anyone have any recommendations?

  34. I'm not sure your choice of phrase is the most flattering But I do like my CBF Cockroach and chose that particular model for the obvious reasons, although I was seriously tempted to get one of the more spicey Honda 600/4's. I know the Transalps' reputation but so does everybody else that's why Bob, Fred and I are surprised by that that one's particular price. It's just too cheap by quite a margin, to be fair you could buy it and possibly re engine it and still come out below market value but why would you want the hassle? That dealer has a reputation as a rip off merchant. So a bike tidy and way to cheap, along with that does wave a red flag to me. If I was genuinely interested in buying a Transalp I would look for one with decent history and pay a bit more. They are a bit tall for me and I can't be arsed with lowering. I also can't get away from my preconception that dirt Bikes should be small and light. . I can't help but think a Dullville would suit me more in terms of practicality but don't know if I could handle the shame of owning one. I didn't see any GS's at Kitt Hill although I wasn't particularly looking for any. I'm sure there would have been some there but I didn't get out of the main car park. I do really like the older Airhead BMW's (GS included) and Flying Brick K bikes, the newer ones leave me a bit cold if I am honest. I'm sure they are great bikes but just not really my thing.
