  1. Only 2 minutes of an epic road with amazing vistas, the Douro River is just out of sight but is running at the bottom in the valley. Yet another excellent recommendation from @Pedro . Going very slowly to be able to appreciate the landscape. Its worth doing this road 2 or 3 times in the same day!! Hopefully this is not going to kill anyone with boredom...

  2. I've spent most of this year Dark Motorcycling.......abandoned villages, abandoned railway stations, abandoned mines, abandoned factories, and ruins littered across bleak dystopian landscapes! Now that suits me just fine! I like the creepy atmosphere of things that are frozen in time! But I know it's not everybody's thing! Some people like bright, attractive pics and vids set in desirable locations. So I've thrown in a report that's more in empathy with peoples' perception of Spain. Personally, I find it little more than a screensaver, and totally lacking in any sort of mental stimulus or interest. Yeh.....the pics and vid look nice. But that's where it ends........there's nothing beneath the surface. Normal ride reports will resume soon though......it's just that I've now got to go further afield to access these. And with temps around 40C as they've been, I just have to wait for the wall of heat to lift! And yes, that haunted sanitorium in Murcia is on the list! So here we go.......along the southern coastal path of Lake Negratin!

  9. Point of parlimentary procedure! There is no such thing as "one bike" in Team Green Ownership ma'am, one is none... the only way to guarantee you;ll have at least one Kawasaki working.. Is to have more than one. .

  10. I had a good time on that same road last week, nobody around except a few trucks exiting the vineyards just to make sure you´re on your toes.

  11. I think it still counts as a ride report. Specially if you still went out in the midst of all that!! Well done and great photos!

  12. I'm back.....holy fuck that was hot! No dark motorcycling today.......but I should have some good pics which are more in empathy with what people expect to see in Spain.

  14. I see a lot of people up to their belly pans in mud or stuck in ruts on these big adventure bikes and saying their using it for what it was made for, well i consider that bullshit what you @Earache are riding is what these bikes were made for i wish we had more of it here so i could use mine. what we have a lot of is more suited to a smaller bike.

  15. How british is it to start a thread about the weather? I'm a quarter way to being fully pissed, being in the Algarve with company of two bikers from back home, up north...

  16. Dude, you have lost a leg already, enough with the drama. I have been stung on the arm today and I have minor swelling, you don't see me complaining. Some people...

  17. All of those yellow dirt piles in the hills are mine locations. The dirt is the tailings from the mine. Lots of open shafts in the area making it pretty dangerous to just walking around...

  18. Old gold mine ore loading area. The ore went down the chute and into horse drawn wagons for transport to the stamping mills in town...

  20. But the dirt (ok, they're more rock roads than dirt) roads were empty and I had a good time railing alon g, sliding the corners etc. Not a lot of run off room if you get it wrong though...

  21. OK guys and girls, here is the thread for submission of pictures for the August edition of Bike Of The Month. Submit until the 26th, on the 26th we'll lock this thread and start primaries, then lock that on the 28th, and have another vote from the 28th till the 31st to decide on the winner. This might seem too complicated, but we're talking about one of motorcycling's great achievements, it's to be expected. Fire away.

  23. That's the truth of it @boboneleg Fred's only able to do his stuff part time these days.......as he's usually otherwise preoccupied with getting back onto the forum after blacklisting himself.

  24. I am Bob.......I got dangerously close to water today.......and I wasn't on tarmac either! At my age I can't be taking risks like that! Swerving around erratically on public roads as if I'm in an episode of CHiPs is my niche! What you say @Tym?

  25. Very nice Sofia, the road sort of reminds me of the N260 in the Spanish Pyrenees.

  26. You're absolutely right Pete. I had this conversation with a mate of mine when I was made redundant about 10 years ago. He suggested that we start up a trail riding business leading peeps around Salisbury Plain etc. I knocked the idea on the head straight off as you would end up getting sued by some 'hooray-henry' who thought it might be a jolly good caper but fell off on the first bit of mud and blamed me. Plus what Fred said, it would just become a chore

  31. The thing is here, we don't take ourselves seriously. Nobody feels they've got anything to prove. We've ridden all our lives........so it's nothing new to us. In fact the only thing people manage to prove is they're twats basically. It says something about the place that probably the most ambitious and hardcore rider here only has one leg!

  32. I got on there in 2003 and have 450 posts or so - have far more here in a few months! I go there to read ride reports and that's about it. But the levels of pretentiousness is unreal. Much better here, where if you're a dickhead, several people will call you a dickhead and you can make amends for your dickheaded ways. Hope that makes some sense.

  33. That's why I rarely post on Buttrider even though I've been a member since 2004. There's some great ride reports on there, and some really good guys.......but unfortunately it's become overrun with attention-seeking fuckheads over the years.

  34. I'd agree with you and Pete - taking an overweight pig of a expensive bike into a swamp makes no sense at all. They're good for pavement and dirt roads and that's about it. A fuckin' chore to take them anywhere else. And what's riding them while standing on the pegs for no reason like it's a dirt bike? Feckin' wankers.

  35. I have been thinking lately whenever my blood pressure is about 78/45 that my GTR is strong enough to tow my KLR... in addition i hope my PA gets my BP meds straight by the next visit, what week is this again...? The topic is getting old right? Well, i mean not your topic...ummm I hate when this happens.
