  1. Looking nice, get a water fixture and it’ll be very “Mr, Miyagi”!
  2. I don’t think it could. But there are worse looking bikes, at least it’s not trying hard to look like a Harley.
  3. I don’t think it’s that bad.

I don’t think so, no. The thought of having to lube a chain again is annoying even before I have to do it. But that bike isn’t meant to be for me. I haven’t ridden one yet, but at 230kg wet I’ll be surprised if it feels more agile than my bike.

    What Next?

I think I want a big displacement traillie with more offroad ability. Something that can go on long trips easily and relaxed in doing road miles but is better suited for a little more offroad than a GS. It has to be nice enough of a road bike for a quick 300km on the motorway without feeling stressed and exhausting, and have creature comforts. The R12G/S seems almost perfect on paper except it’s got a baby fuel tank. I had a sit on one and I honestly I didn’t really feel interested on taking it out for a testride. The new R1300 Adventures are growing on me, they seem strong mechanically so maybe I’ll test one in a year or so and see how they are. I’d like a R1200GS rallye to maybe treat in a different way than I do my bike. The RT is a fantasy bike for me, but maybe in a few years. I like the Harley Low Rider ST a lot, but can’t see me enjoying riding that on any of the roads I enjoy except on the motorway, plus can’t see me turning it around in the garages I park either And also I would feel like a show off on a Harley. I am probably going to be flying to London in October and riding a Scrambler 1200XE home along with Sofia on another one. That will certainly tell me if I want a traillie like that or not.

That’s what you say you want, but what you really want is a project. I think you need two more bikes, really: the second one to “just get on and ride” and the third one to “paint brake callipers and rebuild stuff with needles and new seals”. Tell your wife this is what keeps a man out of extra marital habits.
  8. I meant it's good and practical for a quick trip for groceries.
  9. Depending on the trip, the fact that you put some of the luggage weight straight "into" the bike makes that that extra weight affects it less. I forgot to say, one thing I really don't like about it is that you have to lift the passenger seat to fuel it up. It's not an issue unless you carry stuff on that seat, in which case it's annoying.
  10. I have been taking walks with Sofia’s dog for a few days and trying to be calm and zen, so won’t watch it.
  11. It’s not light, but the weight is really down low as the engine is tilting forward, it’s nice enough on fuel if you don’t cruise faster than the speed limit on motorways and very good on fuel on country roads, plus for carrying clothes for a weekend you don’t need any more space than the front trunk. The engine doesn’t have a lot to give but it’s nice for covering distance smoothly and is nice for a thrash, although it’s not going to win any races. It’s so practical with the front trunk space, that you’ll use it for a quick trip to the shops, also tall enough to carry wine bottles. If being low and practical is important, I rate them highly. Having said all that, Sofia was quite happy to have her Speed Triple back after riding one of these to Italy and back
  12. Yes, I have. No, it’s not. It’s the capital of british abroad, english breakfasts until 2pm, english curry, sportsbars, etc. That might be your thing but it’s not mine. The beaches in that area are a little too small for my liking too, too cramped. If you rent a nice villa away from the chaos with a swimming pool or by the sea I think it would nice, though. It must be good value starting from now and onto October, though, so if it’s cheap …

Going well, then! By the way, you can set up the scroll on the pad to work the opposite way.
  15. Left the GS at my mechanic’s today. Shocks are being sent to a local suspension shop for a service as they’re on 70.000km, and the bike will get a good look over. I’ve done barely 3k on the road tires but they’re being taken out in favour of some Mitas E07 for a while, the plan is to save them to put the road ones back on in the winter. The plan is to go for a ride in Morocco in October, leaving in the first few days of the month. This trip will have a twist, because I’m planning to meet with Sofia in Marrakesh on the 14th to then show her around a few places for a week, before returning her to the airport and then continue by myself.
