  1. The weather feels like October already around here. Most of the tourists have started to go home now and the Coast is slowing down again. Got out for a short ride on Charlotte today. Hopefully out on Bagheera tomorrow. It is a long weekend here, so I have an extra day of fun. Have a good weekend everyone!

  3. having got back from a wee road trip up north on wednesday I'll mostly be putting out tent and sleeping bag to air for a while before being put away again properly. I need to take the bike for a wash so I'll get out a bit and then replace the rear left indicator which, having tried 4 different repair techniques, only 1 of which lasted more than a few hours, I can now change out in about 10 minutes with my eyes closed, Oh Yeah, kids have started back to school yesterday so there's a whole pile of paperwork to fill in... twice

  4. The ride down was alright, a little bit of rain to start with but once into mid Wales the sun came out and it became rather warm. Now at our overnight stop at Spittal. Huge place all to ourselves relaxed start in the morning load up and ride into Fishguard for a big breakfast before getting ready to board at midday. Looks to be dry tomorrow and a 30% chance of light rain on Sunday.

  11. no idea. possibly. so far i have recieved confirmation of the social security's acceptance of my doctors request for a 100% cover of all costs linked to the disease. most medical bills here are riembursed between 60 and 75% by the social security, the rest being reimbursed by your private health insurance. Certain pathologies are takin in charge 100% by the social security. This does mean that I can be reimbursed any and all costs directly linked to treatment for the disease. even travel expenses to and from Dijon. I haven't yet claimed anything, but it's good to know I can if I need to.

  12. I found one with great reviews at the old railway station, which is very close by the docks. It’s very still tonight so the crossing should be smooth, hopefully. Then a mad dash to Kinsale.

  15. Dunno mate, I've been away for 10 days and my phone is switched off... When I left on the 23rd, the US booking we had for september were cancelling. the UK bookings were cancelling as well as it is just too complicated and expensive to get back into the UK once you've been away. ( i wanted to go back for my Mum's 90th birthday last week with the kids but with 5 people the cost of the testing alone was approaching 800€ !) The French holiday season ends abruptly on the 1st weekend of september so unless something has radically changed I imagine it will be quiet when I go back on monday. wht's going to happen this winter is anybody's guess.

  16. longer term yes. I still don't really understand exactlyt wht it is cos it's not simply arthritis. if i've understood right, rhumatoid polyarthritis is an auto-immune disease of some sort that causes, during flare ups, swelling and pain in joints.Long term it can cause paralasis of said joints by creating holes in the bone or cartilege. Hands and feet are usually first to suffer which is why i've been having batteries of scans , echos and x-rays of those, which will serve in the future as a basis for comparison. I don't really suffer from it yet but discovered it following a consultation for pains in lower legs, specifically knees and feet. blood tests revealed the specific chemical makers for the disease were off the bloody scale! not yet a real physicle problem, but the rhumatologist and the medical imaging place that i need to use are in Dijon so there's a lot of time spent on the road to and from there. I'm back there again on the 7th for the rhumatologist and again on the 14th for cortisone injection in my left wrist for carpal tunnel syndrome... I'm waiting for some concrete or quantifiable information before telling work that i'm fucked.

  18. Not that I owe any of you lot any sort of explanation, but; work went bonkers and we had endless technical problems ( but then there has been no maintenance done for 2 winters on the trot so not wholly unexpected but excacerbated by being forbidden from spending any money on parts) Discovered that I have rhumatoid poly-arthritis and have spent most of my spare time driving or riding to and from Dijon for x-rays, echographies and numerous other medical exams of hands and feet. then I was given 2 weeks off at short notice and the computer crapped out completely, refusing to recognise it's own innards. 'putor went to the repair shop and I buggered off for 4 days with bike and tent, leaving everything technological at home. ( 'cept the camera) I got back yesterday, picked up the repaired 'putor this morning and here I am again. If you're very good, i will regale you with tales of motorcycling exploits and derring do over the next couple of days.

  19. Just a few days to go and we're about set. just 3 of us this year. The "Birthday Boys" as we all share the same birthday. (funnily enough) So, Ireland.. Easy enough to get to and without any of the complications involved in crossing to Mainland Europe. Only two bits of documentation required. A passenger Locator form to be filled in 72 hours (or less) before arrival in Ireland. And proof of full vaccination. And that's it. No passport, just proof of ID - a UK driving license. very civilised. No Covid tests needed either before departure or after arrival in either direction. Which, not only removes a major hassle - it also removes any risk of being denied re-entry to the UK if bad luck strikes and we pick up the virus while away. Weather forecast looks positive for the start, at least. This weekend. My dog is being collected at (or before) 10am on Friday and I will be setting off shortly after that, Meeting one of the guys at Burton on Trent and then another (who isn't crossing with us) near Cannock. Number 3 is still unsure about arrival times, so will turn up when he's good and ready. Then a bit of Motorway to near Telford after which, onto normal roads south and west into mid and south west Wales (via Elan) to our overnight digs at a place called Spittal, midway between Haverfordwest and Fishguard. An old police house that is a roofless ruin on streetview. But has since been restored and looks really quite nice. Relaxed start on Saturday morning, into Fishguard for a big breakfast and then over to the Docks for check-in and boarding at midday. Once across we will be having a 130 mile dash to Cork, via Waterford and then stopping overnight just outside the little town of Kinsale, which marks the southern start of the Wild Atlantic way coastal route. Our back of an envelope plan is to spend a few days in Kerry, based just outside Killarney and explore as well as following the route, Then head north, again following the route as far as Connemara, before wending our way east to Dublin and the return ferry to Holyhead. If we have rain, and that's practically certain and it looks like a day will be a washout, then we'll have a day off from riding and head into town. find a nice pub at some point and get pissed. (has to be done) And that's about it with the pre-plan, I'll post further on here as the days pass and internet connections allow.

  21. Had a great ride today but only took a few photos Stopped here waiting for the rest of the group to come back as they went the wrong way. I done this lane a few months ago and thought it was for the first time That was until i got to this barn, once i saw the dummies in the windows it all came back to me but it was probably 12 years ago the last time i done it No idea what the the story is about them or if there is a story Only other photo is of Yoshi fixing a front puncture he done it in 10 minutes unfortunately it went flat again towards the end of the ride. There was plenty with Gopros on so might get some videos later

  22. September can get very wet, Pete. I keep getting adverts on Facebook from the government giving advice on what to do and how to prepare for flooding, so I'm guessing that we're in for some pretty wild weather coming up.

  30. Me on the left next to Keith, the man who later became (and still is) a priest. Also the man who started the fight with three blokes on the train that got me a broken nose and him a broken jaw. I loved those jeans of mine. Snow was not forecast when we set out for the rally we are at. Same rally. Keith on the left. Martin on the right sitting on his gas board blue GS750. He is also the bloke I was helping yesterday to extract a TS250 from the collapsed shed. Kevin (Wombat) on the left. Martin on the GS and behind him a bloke called Keith-Roy (a proper proper cunt). I have a picture of Keith-Roy unconscious on my garage wall right now, my only successful knock out. No skill, I missed his head when trying to punch him in the face, which jarred my shoulder joint badly, BUTt my forearm went across his throat and he fell over backwards and knocked himself out. Keith and Wombat next to my CX

  32. This one was when i was about 13 year old . At the time they were constructing the A470 from Quakers yard to Merthyr Tydfil which passed about 200 yards from my parents house and was pretty exciting for me as there were lots of machines to watch working and they were blasting rock with dynamite of some sort and of course a lot of mischief to be had when everyone had gone home for the night, But this was also exciting for my father for him there was a supply of free building materials to be had, so one frosty morning my father walked over to have his daily viewing of progress but today he was checking out where they were storing the sheets of plywood he needed, after he made a good mental note of the route to his bounty as there was no lighting over there in the night and he couldn't take a torch in case security saw him mooching about. He heads out about 9pm he was back about 5 minutes later wet from head to toe, during the day they had dug a big fuck off hole on route to his bounty and it had filled with icy cold water which my father walked straight into he went in over his head. My eldest brother told me the next day he was walking his new girlfriend home past our house at the time and this man ran past them with water splashing everywhere out of his wellies and said alright boy as he went past his girlfriend said who was that he replied my dad with his hand over his face embarrassed
