Looking through some pictures I noticed my foot hovering over the brake pedal while riding the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina, trail braking, using front or rear brakes or both going into a corner is a great way to stabilise the bike and increase turn in, on heavy cruisers like mine rear brake alone is best, sports bikes work best with both or front only and trail bikes definitely front only on tarmac. With longer bikes you gain some pivotal force as well as extra loading on the front, with other bikes it is more about loading the front tyre and stopping any head shake from developing. You can use it right up to the apex of the turn but you need to have fully released the brake by then. It is a technique well worth learning. Here endeth the lesson.

So today marked the day the Portuguese plate was fitted to the bike! By me, with the assistance of @Pedro that from a distance, via the phone, knew exactly where the 3 screws were and guided me along the task. How does he know these things is a mystery to me!! And because I did the job, no its is not straight!! No problem for me, I am very crooked myself, so we match! I have mixed feelings about this. It is not with easy for me the transition to Portugal and its paradoxes of social injustice, I am always in fear of what can happen here and for which I have no protection, like not being able to have full comprehensive insurance. Also my speeding habits will have to be kept under control a lot more!! Its also another tie cut with my previous life . I am happy to move on, very happy actually, I kept the best things from that time, the best people and the lessons, so a new road is being traveled and it has been, so far, a lot better then I could have ever imagined!! The new plate, philosophically, in its essence means : Accept and Let Go!! Goodbye Germany, hello Portugal!! It will start its life with a round trip of Portugal, and fingers crossed will not hit anything in sight, specially not @Pedro white elephant!!!

In the absence of any logical or credible alternative, they simply make something up, however implausible and in this domain there is a stunning ability to deny all logical or intelligent argument ( or any scientefic or tangible proof for that matter) simply on the grounds that it doesn't suit their purpose.

What I could really do with is you popping round to explain that to my employers. they don't seem capable of comprehending that either they find me an office job, or I will shortly suffer catastrophic and definitive mechanical rupture ( back, shoulders, knees or hips). I have now requested, in writing, twice, a meeting with them to discuss possible solutions. I'm still waiting.

Many many years ago a woman used to come in regularly to my work's front desk and say she was being spied on by 'MFI'. The way I treat it is like with a car, you have a total envelope of available force to apply, or grip, and you can distribute it between applying it from the front or rear by braking or accelerating, or from side to side with cornering but not both at 100% at the same time. In this way, trailbraking is letting go of as much brake as you progressively need in order to pass that force over to the cornering side. I understand this might be explained in the best way but it makes sense in my mind ...

Christ, that's nearly a month for x ray results! this year I have had , cardiac scan, thoracic x-ray, shoulder scan, shoulder x ray and echography of right hand. ALL results available to me and copied to my GP within 48hrs ( the thoracic and cardiec stuff was via the ICU so normal, the rest was 24hrs except for the shoulder x ray which was 48, the hand ecography results took 15 minutes... I know the french system is faaaaaar from perfect but it sounds like the NHS in the UK has given up the struggle!

We can still see Doctors here......but for repeat prescriptions etc they do it by phone.

Not if they can help it, but it’s ok to see the poor nurses and they have to take blood give you your diabetes check and everything else, doesn’t matter if they catch covid obviously as long as the doc is ok.
