Went to York for the weekend with some friends. They've had a bit of rain it seems, we had a bit of trouble getting close to the city due to whole roads shut by massive floods. Second picture down (if it doesn't do its usual trick of changing the order) shows a line of bollards where the road usually is. The opposite bank's road has disappeared altogether.

As you may recall I started the journey with a slight case of the trots, so I lived in fear for the first day and a half. Regular visits to the pubs allowed me to take safety farts in the toilets so as not to require the walk of shame back to the rented house for a kecks change.

FIRST CLASS CARRIAGE, Third class afterwards. You get a roof in first class but have to provide your own cushion by the look of it.

You visited Mallard?

That loco is a legend! Held the world speed record before the War!

It's a beast as well.. The Railway Museum was a lovely place, but quite crowded, also difficult to get far enough away from anything to take a picture of the whole thing. I have not shown all the railway pictures to avoid it being too much. My mates stayed in the pub for this, I wandered over to it, walking gingerly and slowly. Cost me a pound to get in. Took some pictures of Mallard from above.

Nice one Yen, good photos 👍

Me and Mrs oneleg did York about 5 years ago, it's great walking around the city walls as you get a different perspective than walking the narrow streets.

I didn't do the walk around the walls unfortunately, just up some steps to get my first picture along an empty bit. Mostly it was rammed with people and I wasn't in a fit state to be held up if I needed to get through fast. I hope to go back as there was a lot I missed. Very friendly local people.

great pics Yen, that first one is a corker!

This is one of my 'take a picture looking directly into the sun' shots. You haven't a clue what you are looking at, you can't see the display, you are blinded temporarily......but the clever part of the image software always sorts it out and it usually looks nice. I did the same for some of the river shots.

  • 2 weeks later...

Visited York a few times, in fact my first outing when had been in England only for 1 month was to go see Thirsk and see James Herriot home, then stayed in York. Great place and was also flooded, funny enough.

So much love for all the notices and the records and the pioneer engineering coming out of "British land"!  Really miss all the funny streets  and sayings, the laughter and fun that goes with all of it. Special place indeed!

Thanks for sharing and reminding me of how much I love it!!
