My old xl250s would do a little over 70mph flat output would happily sit at 60 all day. You can cover the ground maybe not as quick as you'd like at the smaller end.

Ive used my CRF250 Rally to got to France twice, the first time I only used it as my DR650 was out of commision.   I thought it would be underpowered but absolutey not, stick to the side roads and trails and it's bloody ace. 

Those sort of roads are soooooooo much better that route national or autoroutes in France anyway, there is so much more to see.  I wouldn't hesistate to use it to ride to Spain or Italy.
