I've only riden one shaft drive bike  ...it was my cousin bike , and 83 magna v 65...it sure was a weird feeling when the rear suspension would jump up like two inches...lol.

I've had 2 shafties....both from '83...XJ 750 Maxim & VF 750 Sabre. Both were pretty smooth, & I found especially w/ the Maxim, that if I upshifted w/o the clutch, that chassis jacking was almost non-existent. Both were a bit heavy feeling, but the Sabre felt heavier of the two....typical Honda...lol

He could always ask Trump his secret failing that just get a ginger cat to perch on his bonce

I always heard good things about the GPZ 305.....1 of the few small bore belt drive bikes...

I had a GPZ 305, the belt on that snapped, I went to the Kawasaki dealer for a new one....he said "That will be £150 please!" 😲 ......I converted it to chain, think the kit cost me £40........then the damn thing devoured it's camshaft....

Mine may have lasted longer if I had known about the oil strainer/pickup blocking problem.

Have you ever replaced the belt on your bike @Buckster  ?  How many years has it been on...?

It’s the original belt.

I remember the belts being a known issue of the GPz305's.   That was many years ago though.  I know you can get belt kits for many various bikes now.  My only experience is helping my mate set such a kit up on his Royal Enfield 650.  I didn't like the amount of tension he had to set it at.  Just a gut feeling but I wouldn't run a chain tight like that.  His money his choice, I didn't mind as he was the guy who gave me the xSystem Scottoiler that is now on my Hornet.

09 ?  The belt is 17 years-old  ,  how the belt looking..any visible cracks  ?

‘08 and the belt is in good shape, I check it on a regular basis and keep the tension right.

How many years ago was that Clive ...year and mileage  ?  I can't fantom snapping a belt with a 300cc , unless it was the earlier years when they first came out....and the belts weren't has good I guess...

The 305 was a 1986 model, i had it around 1995, and if I member correctly it had 22,000+ miles on the clocks, it handled fine, and was fast enough for the riding I did, but for a 305cc bike it felt very small,

Pan- Am not sure I've heard anything negative about the belts..150 hp.

The Pan American uses a chain, though.

It certainly does, I know someone with one, he has a Scott Oiler on it.
