  1. The key thing here is 2010 it is now 2021. i paid £1600 for my XR400 in 2008 and you wont buy a tidy one for less than £3000 now
  2. It will still sell for stupid money if it was proper non running money i could have sacrificed parts off the dog to get it sorted but then i'm fixing things again
  3. Tempting but the comments saying the bike does not start and engine rebuild has alarm bells ringing knowing what i know about mine
  4. LOL i was looking at that earlier i need to make room before i get another. There's just nothing new out there i like unless it's a chinky bike but the problem with that is it's a chinky bike
  5. @Catteeclan Did you find out what caused the cam wear on yours
  6. No that just means he likes a big fluffy pussy on his lap not he is one
  7. Put it all back together today and went for a ride and as a result i had a few observations First thing was my waterproofs are no longer waterproof got bloody soaked need some new ones for the winter The bike had a clutch judder pulling off when the bike was cold it started happening just before i did the cam chain this has now gone now, i did put it down to cooking the clutch going over Barmouth hills many years ago the metal plates in there are blue and thought its on its way out, but i'm more inclined to think it was dry clutch plates from lack of oil now After the cam chain replacement i noticed the bike was running a lot cooler than it used to on the dipstick temperature gauge i did think this was down to me giving the carb a good clean and thought there might have been a blocked jet before which made the bike run lean it is now back to the temperature it used to run at. i think it was because there was very little oil being circulated around the engine so the oil never got that hot in the tank on the way home the ticky noises returned so i will be checking the valve clearances again tomorrow just to check that is still the noise i am hearing and nothing else has developed on the ride. I'm beginning to think my worn out cam chain and guides was down to this oil problem and not old age as first thought Apart from that the bike ran flawlessly and seems the bottom end has survived. Now i don't know what to do if there was a new 650 single out there like the DR650 or XR650L i think i would be purchasing it right now because i'm fed up working on them, all i want to do is ride what i do know is there's going to be some desperados going down the hatch tonight
  8. Yup i'm just going to ride it and see how it goes i'm not willing to invest in a new cam and followers only to find out the bottom end needs work after. If it all turns out good but i have to keep adjusting valve clearances i'll do something about it for now the dog is on probation
  9. The bike might be ok but I'm not sure i will make it the friday night has fucked me up the last few years you should try there its a good night of naughtiness
  10. I went 10 years without a bike got into 4x4's and done that for a while, i did have use of my brothers MZ125 for a few of those years strange thing is i got back into the bikes just after the kids were born which is when i really should have given them a rest
  11. I think if i was Frankenstein the dog would be my monster. So as said earlier in the week the dogs oil pump was starved of oil due to a suspected collapsed oil pipe this is it cut open its squashed when straight and when fitted its bent so definitely the problem Making a solid pipe artery to the heart of the dog has failed for the moment as my flaring tool wont work on the stainless pipe, What i made fits but wont seal at the frame. I haven't given up on it though just put it aside until i find out how the dog runs if and when i resurrect it In the meantime I got the new second hand oil pipe and after fitting the blood was running from the frame to the dogs heart freely.Turning the engine over with the CDI disconnected had the dogs life bloody up in it's head after messing about a bit getting rid of air locks which i was quite pleased about After this it was time to bring the dog to life i reconnected its brain and switched on the power and guess what Really chuffed It don't sound bad at all, i shall recheck the tappets tomorrow and then release it into the wild to see if it survives
  12. I would have been hoping they weren't putting meat up there if it was me
  13. @boboneleg did they starve your brain of oxygen during the leg op i think you've gone barmy
  14. I remember another time i couldn't see an owl i was in a petrol station in Bonvilston many years ago i had just paid for fuel and the guy serving me said have you seen our owl i said no wondering what the hell he was on about, he said go in there and have a look, it was a barn type building alongside the garage, in i goes and looks everywhere up in the rafters, window sills shelves on the walls everywhere i couldn't see it. Went back to tell the guy i couldn't see it and he said its definitely there have another look so back in i goes thinking this guy is taking the piss out of me looks around again couldn't see no damn owl by this time i'd lost interest and some leaflets caught my eye on the table in front of me when i turned to look there was the owl on the table a few feet from where i was standing it was a barn owl just sat there didn't move seemed quite tame i went back to the guy and said i wasn't expecting it to be sat in front of me so didn't see it.
  15. Well i hope your nephew appreciates it it's a very nice gift. My daughter past her test last week and picked up a little car on the weekend for her I've never seen her so excited
  16. As i kid i was in a quarry below my parents house with my father and he said to me look at that Owl pointing at the ivy covered quarry wall and for the life of me i couldn't see it he kept pointing saying by there look i was at a loss i thought he was winding me up and then the owl moved it's head it was less than eight feet from us and huge i would never have seen it if it hadn't moved it blended so well with the background
  17. You managed to get all the blood out of the boot (trunk) upholstery then Tym
  18. Great photos, i hear a owl hooting regularly around here in the night but haven't seen it yet
  19. I'm the same as Bob would love the DR650 or the XR650L to be available here, the only upgrade i would like on them is fuel injection fed up of messing with carbs As for a bike that isn't made anymore it would probably be a CR500 love to duel sport one of those but fetching too much money for me
  20. I meant carry the speed through the bends
  21. I used to ride like a lunatic years ago but now i'm happy to do the speed limit but try and carry it through the bends
  22. I was talking to a guy years ago on a GS and we got to talking about different bikes and when i said i had four he said i wish i could afford four bikes, I said if he sold his GS he could as it was a £16000 bike and my four bikes cost me less than £6000 my fifth bike turned up after an accident a few years ago and the compensation from that is the only reason i could buy a new bike.
