Sneaking up on USA

I wanted to give the donkey a run today to check on the mods I'd done to her since coming back from France.  So I rode up to Castle Combe and started riding trails at Summer Lane............

I rode on through the Somerfords and up to Brinkworth.  I went in the motorcycle shop up there just to have a nose as they had a Mash 650 in there.  It looks pretty good in the flesh 👍

The next lane was Ravensroost where I got a few 'stares' from a couple of dog owners, hey ho ...............

Last night when I was looking at the maps to decide where to ride I found a UCR (Unclassified County Road) that used to run across the airfield at Fairford before it was built.  Further investigation on google earth revealed that it still ran up to the perimeter fence.  Now in the past I have delivered ordnance to RAF Fairford and it used to be a total ball ache so I was a bit apprehensive about getting a tug from security or the old bill but I rode up there anyway.

It turned to be no problem at all and I even got to see a B52 parked up on a side runway.............

I hung around for a while but didn't want to push my luck so I set off for a couple of lanes that I hadn't done for quite a few years,  This one is near Poulton................

and this one comes out onto Akeman Street which is one of the roman roads leading to Cirencester................

So far the trails were really dry , yes it's been dry for a long time but we have had some big storms over the past couple of days so I was a bit surprised.  And then I came across this................

But that was it as far as flooding was concerned and the weather was great if a tad breezy.     Now I started to head south but near Chedworth I swung around quickly as I saw a photo opportunity in a field ..............

Once I got up to the Whiteway (another roman road leading to Cirencester) I passed the flying corps entrance but noticed that one of the Bi-planes was out so I did a swift about turn to go and see...............

They were just strapping a young lady down as she was going to do some wing-walking for charity  ................

From there I rode down to some lanes near Dalingworth ..............

and then back down the Fosseway to head for home..........

When I got to the ford I was really surprised to see that the council had done some great work to stop the 4x4's from destroying the area which had been going on for a couple of years, it was good to see............

I had a chat with a cyclist there and she took a video of me riding through, thank god I kept it upright 😋.

It was a great day out and bike behaved faultlessly , there is lot to be said for using original equipment :littleguy:

Ah I assumed it was on your phone. Heyho

Here's one I made earlier.  In a different ford, on a different bike, on a different day, in a different county :classic_unsure:

Good stuff!

Those lanes look friendly enough for most bikes too, so none of that flipping your bike backwards and have it landing on you stuff!

Exactly so Pedro, it was a nice steady ride through lovely countryside  👍

I don't get the fascination with driving through water filled holes like that, though. Is it for the sake of tradition that you keep paths or roads through flooded places like that?

I wouldn't call it a fascination more of a challenge for me and sometimes its a long diversion if you don't go through. Its not flooded its a ford a road that crosses a river with no bridge quite common on small roads here

What Fred said , I love the challange of a ford.  The one in the video was easy (as you hear my mate Tony say )

The ford on the Fosseway (the one that's just been repaired in the photos above) used to have a sign on it showing that the correct route for vehicles was via the ford.  The bridge on the side is for pedestrians and cyclists.
