after 800km in the car and hours battling french administrative beurocracy yesterday ( thank God Madame moon is good at the admin crap cos otherwise there would have been multiple homicides...?) today is going to be spent annoying the kids, eating food prepared for far more people than we actually are, drinking a beer or two, and possibly some wine as well, and then sleeping. We don't get boxing day here so madame is back at work tomorrow. Hey, somebody's got to earn some money...?

The fact that Bruce is still here, and still contributing, is a testament to the man's mentality. As far back as I can remember on maxbikes we've had members who didn't yet have bikes, or were between bikes for whatever reason and I've always thought that "biker" has more to do with mentality or "mind set" than anything else. He is also a scholar and a gentleman ( but don't tell him I said so) and has reached out numerous helping hands to a number of us, me included, both metaphorically and physically over the years. ok, i'm impressed. I switched it off so I could remove the battery and re glue the feet back on it. it wouldn't start again and gave message " fan error" top left of the screen and then just shut down. I got a hammet and chisel out and removed the screws from the back, removed the keyboard which gave me access to the fan. i just blew gently on it a couple of times to see if it wasn't seized or anything but it moved ok so I gave a long steady blow in an attempt to clean it without damaging it. I replaced the keyboard and then hammered al the screws back in the holes. it started up first time and is now working again.! I'll see if I can get a can of air tomorrow and do it again, ( i get what you mean Bruce about the bearings). and give the whole thing a gentle blowjob...

it's that time again. For some reason my laptop switches itself off and shuts down without warning. I have actually put this down to the bettery or charging system overheating as it seems to be linked to the underside of the unit getting very hot. I have managed to work with this by keeping an eye on the batt temp and either unplugging, if it's plugged in, or just stopping using it for a while which seems to allow it to cool down. Due to lockdown and stuff it has seen some fairly intensive usage over the last 6 months and is running most of the day with one thing and another. Unfortunately it has now started dropping the internet connection. when I try to reconnect it says there are no wifi networks available ( 2 other computors and the telly are all running off the wifi no problem). the troubleshooter says that there is no ethernet cable connected which is irrelevant cos it's alwas been connected via wifi. when I go into settings and look at the wifi connection status is says "disactivated" or something similar. the laptop dos have a physical manual switch on the side for the wifi and yes I have double checked each time that it is in the on position. the only solution I have is to switch the unit off and then back on again. it takes around 20 minutes to shut down ( normally very quick) but when I restart it it will reconnect to the wifi network with no problem. any ideas why it might do this or what I can do about it? apart from buying a new one which I don't have the means to do currently. The laptop is a Lenove X201 given to me a while ago by a friend. running windows 10.
