  1. you're the only person I know who buys a bike from a shop, makes it better than it was when you bought it and then Px's it for another one. they probably sell them on for more than you paid for it. I bet you're his favorite customer
  2. trees is just boats in kit form
  3. well I'm just glad somebody seems to know how it all works
  4. there are some surperb photos there Pedro, thank you for sharing.
  5. i stopped checking the valve clearances on the transalp after doing it every 10,000 I gave up at the 100,000 service when I realised I had never needed to adjust them!
  6. oh yeah, I've met Dell and Lyn too, I forgot about that
  7. Bucky's getting old, it took him over a month to come back with that one...?
  8. ?. I thought 10,000 km was a pretty standard bike service period these days. it is fun to be able to do it youself though, i enjoyed doing the transalps services but i really cant deal with the tiger and dont have the tools. Also if i did have the ( electronic) tools i’d only balls it up...?. There are definaty some circumstances where “old school rules”
  9. I like it here, with most of the old crowd and some new blood too, I do use facebook but in a rectricted manner and prefer the format of forums. I just ealised that it works a bit like a terrorist organisation, with a hard core at the centre and various levels of implication within the whole, whilst everybody knows "virtually" most of the others, no one person has actually met more than one or two of the other members...? I've met Bob and Cattee, Bruce helped me out in a big way when I was struggling with computor problems though i've never met him. I struggle to think of anyone I could invite as so few of them speak sufficient english. There is one I could try... but he rides a harley now...
  10. Dickens, " a tale of two cities" if I remember rightly.
  11. I worked today but am now on holiday so tomorrow will be... going boating...
  12. what's involved in the 5000km service? other than oil and filter change? ? is that the regular service interval on those bikes?
  13. No tuition fees here... YAY!... and my No1 ( of whom I am immensly proud, but for gods sake dont tell her that and I know she ain't on here) was hard working and clever enough to earn a "bourse", closest translation is a grant I suppose which means that we actually pay very very little other than her lodging which is very little compared to uk costs. Dijon is the centre of burgundian gastronomy and the food im the university restaurant thing is quite good and only costs her 1€ per meal... I do sometimes realise just how lucky I am to be living where I do.
  14. less now than a few years ago, ut plenty work within the local tourist industry. I use the term "work" in the loosest sense... and a few more who work in the wine industry as the largest exports of wine from the Chablis vinyards are ( or were) the uk and the states, neither of which nationalities are renown for their willingness to communicate in a language other than their own so native speakers are employed by the big vinyards.
  15. you'd have fallen out with the ex-pats here Pete they're mostly piss heads and wasters or complete tossers with too much money. you'd probably end up like me having nothing to do with them, at leat you could deny even being the same nationality, I have to lie...
  16. We're lucky here so far in that respect Alan. I fear some of the bigger towns will close down again, No 1 daughter is afraid that Dijon Uni is about to send them all home and install "distance learning" by computor. I'm afraid that having gone from Lockdown to zorking flat out so that others can have their holidays we'll be locked down again as soon as I am furlough'd in november... Thay wont lock down till then cos it's half term next week for 2 weeks so at least i'll get that. Now I just have to refuse the knee operation till early november so that I can get some riding in before hand.
  17. sorry I copied and pasted from farcepuke on my phone and as you know i'm a complete arse with all things computerised... what I should ave done was link it https://www.rideapart.com/articles/448215/yamaha-tenere-700-travel-spy-photos/
  18. the only TOMOS I ever used was an outboard motor for a dingy, more use as an anchor than a motor...
