only Winnie the pooh fans will get that one... Just popped in to say that I'm not dead yet, just been flat out at work, the French have taken to heart the idea that holidaying in France is neccessary this year so they have, massively, but for the French "holiday" means July or August, nut June and not september, so we have been at running at full capacity from 10th July to end August (which though excellent is not going to make up for the other 6 months of running at either 0 or 5 %... ) with just myself and the company owner working rather than him, me and 3 techniciens. needless to say I have nearly as many hours overtime owed as I have holiday still to take so It has been" work, eat, sleep, repeat" for the last month and a bit. It has now gone quiet again so I'll be back with more tales of derring do from Burgundy shortly, Starting on sunday when I will be attending an off road motorcycle training session with a professional instructor, given as a birthday present from Mme Moon. it's going to take me a while to catch up with everything on here but normal service will be resumed as soon as poss. ?

I'm an asocial git at the best of times and and rarely so happy as when I'm alone. I do though, enjoy fom time to time riding in company, if the company is good. there is a small group of riders here ( we're no longer an official club) who I am sufficiantly comfortable with to simply be. I avoid big groups like the plague, just not my thing.

despite having read various members inane babbels and rambling misconceptions of what defines a "biker" or not and what constitutes an "adventure" or not, I think I might have found the definitive answer to the definition of "adventure" riding. credit where credit is due, I stole this from the H.U. faceburke page and thought it might amuse

I thought huawei was taiwanese or korean, so that shows how much I know... I don't knowingly buy anything chinese but break off the outer wrappings and most electronic goods are built there. To be fair, the bubonic plague thing is a media hype I think, it reemerges regularly in various parts of the world and is now fairly easily treated and dealt with as I understand it. I don't subscribe to the conspiracy theories about covid or other deseases, but then I don't subscribe to any of the myriad conspiracy theories that circulate so readily on social media so maybe i'm just too naive and trusting. nothing I can do about any of it anyway so wether it's natural or done "a purpose" the result is the same.

the XJ 900 was a superbe machine Lone, I could ride it all day in comfort and did a fair bit of 2 up touring with Mme Moon too ( alsace, Italy, switzerland, UK etc) I had the 650 first and then got my hands on the 900. in 5 years from '96 to 2001 i wound it up from 22000km when I bought it to 96000km when I sold it..never have I done so many km's anually as in that period and it never, never let me down, not once. ?

when i was first over here and bought a Yam xj900 i organised, twice, a run to the uk for a bike rally. once to the Suffolk Coasters Coypu rally and once to the Icini mcc 's "arse in the grass" rally. both obviously on the east coast. In those days you could still ride at silly speeds on the French autoroutes and get away with it. the first trip I organised, i gave the instructions that we'd ride the 30 k to Chalon sur saone, pick up the A6 nothbound and ride together at around 140km/h. Well we rode together as far as Chalon but once on the autoroute they all "poured the sauce" as no one says, ever... and despite keeping up a steady 170km/h I didn't see the front of the group again untill we got on the ferry at calais... that would have been in '95 or '96 I guess Won't happen again, those speeds today will see you in prison, no licence and no bike.

welcome from Moon, also known as...erm... Moon... yes it's a nickname but that's what i'm known as in real life too, and was before the internet ever existed. Adventure is, much like life itself, what you make of it depending on abilities bith physical and mental, circumstances and budget. For some people nuying the latest gear and bike and riding down the highway to starbucks, is in itself an adventure, others will need to ride the world in extreme conditions to fell thay've lived an adventure. I do my thing and try not to judgemental. most o the peeps on here "do their own thing" and their own way but we all ride.

naah, good on the surface only, I've looked into it when it came up on the french sites weeks ago. As far as I can make out from michelin it is effectively 3 months, so not exactly a career more a holiday job, you provide and pay for everything and are paid by michelin.... oh, wait a minuite, you will be paid by michelin ( futur tense) the authors rights to whatever of your writings does eventually get published. now I might be pissed off with my job sometimes but it does have certain benefits that i'm not able to forgo for some promise of possible futur payment if they use my material and if they publish and if the book sells etc etc. if their motorcycle guide bears any resemblance to their touring /food/ hotel guide then it will be overpriced, overhyped, self serving elitist drivel. I will freely admit that I heartily dislike ans despise the michelin food guide and their entire approach to the food and hotel industry. However, if someone is free for 3 months and can do a bit of travel prose then more power to their elbow if they want to try their hand It could start a vocation for someone.but from what i've read to Michelin wanting to throw money at riders" I would suggest that there is a liberal use of " creative jonalism"

yeah, i'm due back to work again on the 22nd so the bosses are taking a gamble on the uk borders re opening to the EU cos it'd be pointless otherwise. It does unfortunately mean that a couple of serious multi day rides I sort of planned for this summer now wont happen.

better get me another axe or two then, seeing as were not alloed to play with guns

That was lifted on 2nd June and in any case this is a neccessary visit to a family member " at risk" and unable to deconfine for health reasons. which would entittle one of us to go visit and do what needs doing, as it is I can take Madame with me.
