  1. First story has several embarrassing moments, long story short: I once managed to get my Transalp stuck in the bottom of a rocky trail and on the edge of a drop. Phone went out, spent a very cold day waiting for help, the help got lost and couldn't find me so were panicking assuming I was dead. Eventually it got dark and we couldn't see to get the bike out so it was left overnight. Next day I forgot the bike key at home and only realized 50km into the recovery trip! We got the fire departiment to winch it out, and then people proceeded to push me out because it wouldn't start. A while later I realized the ignition switch was off! Second story, I'm taking my girlfriend on a trip to the Algarve on our new (to us) R1150GS, the trip was to be a prelude to a Morocco trip later in the year, we're feeling adventurous and confident, the ride down the Atlantic coast is pretty nice with cliffs next to the ocean and pretty views, to stop for one of those views as soon as we approach the first cliffside I ride out of the street and after the first 20 meters of dirt hit a soft dirt patch and wash out the front. Down we went after 20 meters of dirt. Went from confident to embarrassed quite quick
  2. I can see this being a really cool bike to own. I wonder about protecting those exhaust manifolds though, I hope there's some valve cover protection solution that stops that being the first point of contact on a slow speed drop.
  3. An engine that's renowned for having a nice race like feel and liking high revs, with a tendency to over heat if going slow ... on an trail bike? It does look cool, on a drawing. I looked at their website a couple of days ago, they have three dealers here but a couple of those are like small customizing shops of not much credibility, if you search for service shops the closest in distance is in London , I think MV Agusta decided to partner with the chinese to maybe better their after sales assistance it's the blind leading the deaf ...
  4. So it's like you've got a sand castle and the tide is coming up?

  6. Christ! Those snow covered tents and snowed and iced roads look like somewhere I'd pay money not to be in

    Pedro's food

This will not be to everyone's taste, but that's hardly a surprise, winter and cold means more traditional foods for me, for whatever reason. One of the most old school typical things in Portugal, involves a lot of different cuts of meat and sausages, plus cabbage and carrots. It's called the Cozido, here in a tiny restaurant 1 mile away from my home. Hoven cooked codfish with potatoes: Pantry pasta, with horse mackerel fillets as main protein, anchovies, capers, olives, onions, it was great: Sofia's lasagna, unfrozen for a comforting dinner: Nuts A mother's friend sometimes makes a rich tomato sauce and freezes in small portions, a few are sent my way and are a nice thing to have in the back of the freezer, here is one of them with some tagliatelle: Mum's squid and chorizo with mashed potatoes: Getting home late on a cold sunday means no fresh groceries, unfrozen portion of peas plus a quick turmeric and coriander rice. Very much portuguese, codfish in the oven, lots of olive oil and "punched" potatoes.

    Getting Old!

I did read a couple of plays, and liked them, but it did take some effort to overcome the language. Some time ago though, maybe dealing with these ancient brits is bringing it back

    Getting Old!

What that it tell about oneself if one thinks that without the obligation of work one bores oneself to death?
