  1. Probably , you're onto a winner though as you have the perfect image for a bus driver
  2. Will you be going anywhere near Father Ted's house ?
  3. It turned into a bit of a monster in the end, he didn't want to spend all his time just taking items in and just sending them back out again . His real love is making one-off parts for overland bikes so he closed it in the end. He let me go long before the end which pissed me off a bit as he didn't really give me a reason. I still sold some stuff for him on a casual basis about a year after but I haven't seen him for a long time now. He's a really nice guy, a good engineer and an ace rider but I've no idea what he's up to now as I don't do any social media.
  4. In 2013 I worked with Gabe who was going to open new premises for his fledgling company Zen Overland. He got an old railway goods shed and we spent 3 months doing it up . Here I am up on the forklift trying to sort out some electrics, not a lot of health & safety going on here .......... a and Gabe cleaning the flourescent lights........... Things are startting to take shape................. Gabes XR400 , his supermoto and my KTM950................... Gabe on the phone taking orders.................. and my personal tea mug ............... This was at the opening day, Sam Manicon and Graham Field have there backs to me as they set up their stalls..............
  5. The guy in the beige overalls is Gabe, I used to work for him for a while. When they came back from that trip he took the rear tyre off his XR400 (a Michelin Desert) and went to chuck it on the scrap pile. I stopped him as it was only half worn and fitted it to my KTM950 Instead of hijacking Alans thread I started a new one..............
  6. Me , Paul , Austin , Lois and Charlie . Trail riding in Wales back in the day........................
  7. When you were working on the ships Alan, did you ever get any time where you were warned of the Russian 'threat ' ?

    I preferred Bill and Ben.................
  9. This might work.........................
  10. It looks beautiful, looking forward to seeing more photos.
  11. I can remember hiding under a girls bed in a pub on Gloucester Road, she thought her mum was busy pulling pints downstairs and we got a bit of a shock when we heard her coming up the stairs. My eventual escape was down the fire escape at the back of the pub and climbing over the wall into Bristol North swimming baths
  12. There maybe some parts on Ian Coates bike that I gave him. I sent him some stuff after meeting him at a Horizons Rally when I was working with Gabe from Zen Overland.
  13. Exactly what I was going to say, got to be worth 5mph extra
  14. In Bristol, WD&HO Wills and the English Corrugated Paper co both had workers houses where the occupants paid a reduced rent straight out of their wages
  15. No idea at the moment Pete, I have about three different trips planned for France but we'll have to see how covid affects us next year and take it from there

I did the beaches back in 2019, I've put a small report up here................
  17. After @MooN report on Verdun and others expressing an interest in the D-Day beaches I thought i'd bung up some photos of my trip in 2019. I had been trail riding down at my mates in the Lot area of France and on my way back up to the ferry at Cherbourg I decided to visit the beaches and that area. The morning started out dry but soon turned to rain which sort of added to the sombre atmosphere of the various sites. At some point I would like to go again sometime and spend longer at some of the memorials. Anyway, here are some photos........................
  18. Around the Dagenham area Yen, were there houses that were built for the Ford workers and owned by the company ?

I want to say that's a great trip Chris and in some ways it is, but in another way it isn't. Anyway, I'm glad you got some time away by yourself and what briliant photos to explain the history to all of us. Out of interest, did you ask your neighbour (BMW man) if he managed to keep moving during the pandemic or did he have to hunker down in one particular country for any amount of time ?
