Mandatory Speed Limiters & Onboard Spy boxes in 2022

This vid is excellent at breaking it down where we actually stand with this technology. Watch it and see what you think cos it affects all of us!

My feeling is it will decimate sales of the larger bikes, and there'll be a huge demand for used bikes which don't have this system in it!

I think that this is something that's been raised many times in the past. I honestly don't think that it's something that could safely be applied to bikes. Imagine a system that shuts the throttle, or even applies the brakes whilst the bike is leaned into a bend? Suddenly having to compensate as the bike starts to run wide due to changed speed? A few people having accidents and getting seriously injured or killed would have the governments demanding the systems being disabled in quick time.

His anti-EU rhetoric gives the impression of a certain amount of, dare I say it, scaremongering!

Reminds me of when my last company fitted trackers to all our cars. A lot of guys were very pissed off about it.

One of the guys phoned the HR manager one Monday morning and asked her where she went at the weekend. She said that it was none of his business, so he told her that where he went at the weekend was none of her business either!!

Shortly afterwards the trackers were all removed! 😂😂

With the sort of intelligent cornering ABS and throttle management on bikes today and becoming more available each year, I honestly do not think that is an issue on the road. It won't cut power like a hard rev limiter does.

I also think most bikes will have a BMW ABS style button which you just press and disconnect the whole thing, too many bikes being meant to be used for off the road things make it easy for bike manufacturers to do it, although certainly some won't.

am sure I do not want to buy a bike that monitors and records what I do in a way that can easily be presented to the authorities, or one that is speed limited in any way. There will be a massive industry of guys mapping these systems out of bikes and cars, and this might in turn present the manufacturers with liability in case they aren't able to ensure their systems' unbreachability (is this a word?).

My dad's car has a little sign inside on the dashboard that indicates the current speed limit, based on sign recognition or might even be GPS assisted, it works surprisingly well. Having said that, there are multiple speed traps placed right after lower speed signs in Portugal, these systems won't save you from this as you would need to jump on the brakes to go from a 120 to an 80 in 50 meters, we are nowhere near the speed monitoring you guys have in the UK or France, though.

And lastly, you know he's not a car guy when you hear "your 10 year old Ford Escort" :classic_laugh:

Hah !  I can just see them trying to introduce this in France.  Motorcyclists over there just won't except any of that shit.

It's not going to really affect me anyway as the bikes I ride and the roads I ride on won't have any of that stuff.

The courtesy car that my missus had recently had the lane keeping assist or whatever it's called. In the end we turned it off (although it turned itself back on each time the ignition was turned on) because it would wobble and tug the steering wheel, not only when changing lanes or overtaking, but often when there was some tarmac banding in the road! The last straw was when I was overtaking a cyclist. I was indicating, mainly to warn the vehicles behind, and moved over the white line to give him plenty of room, but the haptic feedback really tugged the steering back.

So, if they think that the technology is there for this kind of thing I think there's still a way to go yet.

The 'collision avoidence ' on my Honda braked so hard one day that the deliveroo twat on the scooter behind me ended up on the pavement to avoid hitting me.  Good luck to any pedestrians if this shit is no longer optional.
