What's that big coiled hose thing @Saul  going across the top of the engine ?  Is it some sort of emissions crap ?

It’s the vacuum cleaner hose to suck up the shit.

Just heard back from the guy who is doing my valve check.   All well within spec and reckons they have probably been checked before so that is good news.  Something less to worry about 😉

Picked up my CBF from the valve check last night.   Talking to the chap in detail and he reckoned all but one of the valves were spot on in spec.   I asked if he thought they had been checked recently and he wasn’t sure if the valve cover had ever been off 😳.      I said is that unusual and he said it’s Japanese and that he thought this era lower tuned Honda 600 fours were just that well built.   Also that if looked after they will run to 100k or more.  Don’t know if I  will put another 64k on the bike but reassuring to hear.  Looks like I was paranoid about the valve clearances after all but at least I know now.

My bike went to 120000km without the valves changing. It's quite common nowadays.

They were cleaned and had the seats replaced before needing adjustment :classic_laugh:

I don’t think it’s that common to be honest. Some bikes and models maybe but not common.

Well after much polava the bike is now finished.   The second set of fork seals I fitted also leaked and to be honest I sort of knew they were going to the stanchions were just to rough.  So I bit the bullet and ordered new stanchions, bushes, oil and a third  set of fork seals.  Spent several hours fitting it all today.  Dry so far but to be honest I will be completely flabbergasted if they leak now it is practically all new out of the box.   Hopefully I won't have to touch much until the next oil service now in 5000 miles time.  I was going to use my hydraulic cable oiler to do all the cables today but ran out of will in the end.  Especially when I managed to blow a fuse changing a sidelight bulb.   And guess what I have hundreds  of fuses except for the right one for my fucking bike.  Off to ebay in a minute.    Will have another tinker around tomorrow to button everything up then thinking about a trip to Sammy Millers later in the week, maybe.  😳

Take care with cheap fuses. My ex boss did some big damage to a car wiring loom.  It didn't blow, and then there was plenty smoke. Took me about 4 hours to sort it out after.
Best thing was it happened while still in the garage and not after giving it back to the customer.

Took the CBF out for a 90 mile shake down today.  Running sweeter than it ever has in my ownership.  Also the forks are dry so the seals are holding, shouldn't have been in doubt but on the third attempt doubts creep in.      🙂

Dominating? I doubt the wisdom of saying that on here. There are at least two people here that may struggle to contain themselves now.

Fixed it 😉

She is only 17, she doesn't know anything about that sort of deviance.    She is just an angry little young woman determined to get her own way in everything.   He went out with his mates last night and she marched him home, forced him to drink pints of water and take paracetamol then threw him a pillow and blanket and told him to sleep quietly on the sofa. 🤣   Poor little fucker isn't allowed to breath.

And I don't know what she has told him about me cause he wont look and me in the eye.  😳

That’s probably all you can ever want for your kids really.   I have two daughters, I worry about the older one but I worry more about Shadow as she is scary in her focus and singleminded approach.  I’m sure she will make a success of whatever she does I just hope it’s not contract killing.  😳

That’s a lucrative profession, I know some people who could point her in the right direction.

Much happier CBF

New Fork Seals, forks repainted,  new front brake pads (thank you Fred) all brake callipers stripped and cleaned, replaced brake fluid front and back.  New oil & filter, air filter and plugs.  Replaced front marker lights with LED’s to match headlights plus pretty deep clean.   Oh and fresh coolant.
Should be good until next year now just need to get my head around a valve check and adjustment.  😉

Remember this post when I was all chuffed with myself for sorting the bike out.    It's been long enough now and I have got over what happened on the first run out after the service.    Shadow was still off the road so we went up to Damerells for her favourite Sausage sandwich then for a bimble about for 60 miles or so.  Ran like a dream  but when the fuel light came on I dropped in the garage and filled it up.  About a mile later the it conked out.  WTF.  Anyway turns out I filled it up with diesel. 😳

Bloody self inflicted disaster.    Only about 3 miles from home so I got the Mrs to collect Shadow and called the AA.  I talked to the dispatcher and explained what happened.  He said I was in luck as they now offer a refuelling service where they drain the tank and put 10 litres of E10 in.  I was interested but not at the £190 they charge for doing it.  So I said no thanks and asked to be recovered home.  The dispatcher said fine but there maybe a charge for that if the Patrol man has to go and get a trailer to put the bike on.     I said there better not be as I already pay for my bikes to be covered.  🤬    Patrol man turns up after an hour, which I thought was pretty good, and surprisingly he was already equipped with one of those fold out transformer type bike trailers.  A fiddle to put together but clever bit of kit.  He was a biker, good as gold and offered to drain the tank for me gratis if I signed a disclaimer form.   He checked with his control who said he wasn't allowed to do that anymore.   Of course not money grabbing B'stards.    So he dropped me home and advised me to syphon out the trank, drain the float bowls and let it smoke out with some fresh fuel.   Which I did.  His off the book advice was that the worse that was going to happen was the carbs/fuel system would have a bit of a flush type passive clean through.   Very helpful guy.     So now a few weeks later and a fresh tank of fuel and it's running lovely so all ended well.  I'm over the embarrassment and annoyance at my stupidity now, enough so to tell you lot about it.  Of course my mates haven't mentioned it at every opportunity since. 🤨     Also still a bit pissed off with the AA's upselling stance when you call them.  I pay £20 a month for their service to cover me and the Mrs, bikes included.  I expected better.    And yes it's the first time I have ever done that 😳
