  1. All done, first time I have ever done fork seals. Fiddly mucky job but straightforward enough. Had to go and get my mate to undo the dampener bolts on the bottom of the forks. I will buy the long Allen sockets I need for the next time.
  2. Yeah I do know that and it's why I am fretting, but a valve check in a garage is nearly as expensive as a second hand motor, not moaning I understand why. Although that would be a shame to wreak the motor given the one in the bike seems pretty healthy. I think what I will have to do is learn how to do it myself, at least it would put my mind at rest. I have watched a few videos of how to's and it's pretty complicated, to me, but I'm sure I could learn if I have to. I have done loads of valve clearances with tappets over the years. Just have take it slow and methodically doing it one step at a time. Stills fills me with apprehension but needs must I suppose.
  3. Just got the renewal notice from Bennetts for my CBF600, fecking £198 TPFT with a £500 compulsory excess for a bike worth about £1000. Shopped around and got the same cover and excess from One Click, Allianz Underwritten, for £97.17. Bit more palatable. No add ons as I have got cover for that elsewhere.
  4. Not so tired this morning and a bit more confident to have a crack of stripping the forks down and doing the seals myself after a couple of helpful videos on Youtube. Still know a man that can if things go tits up.
  5. The plugs that came out did not show any sign of wear. I will clean them up set the gaps and keep them.
  6. I like the sound of that. I was thinking about doing them every other year but I did 5k last year so that would make it roughly every three years for plugs. I'm gonna change all the fluids this year so as to set a datem as a starting point. When I bought the bike the previous owner said he had a full service done the year before for the MoT and that would match with what I found today after 5000 miles in my ownership and him only doing 100 miles between MoT's. The only thing that troubles me a little is that I have no record of valve clearances being done and the bike is at 36000 miles. Doesn't necessarily mean they haven't been done just I have no record of it. They are supposed to be done every 16000 I believe. I chatted to the mechanic I use about it and he said not to sweat it. As long as the bike starts fine you shouldn't worry. It starts perfectly and the motor is pretty quiet compared to other Honda 600's I have heard this year. But I do worry as that is my way
  7. Just finished stripping the forks out of the bike. Total pain in the arse and filthy, seals been misting for some time I would say judging by the gunk. I don't have an impact and looking at the dampener bolts in the bottom of the fork legs I will just mangle them with allen keys. Be cheaper in the long run to pay the local bike shop to do it with the right tools. After all I have done all the donkey work. Also I am pretty sure it will be cheaper to pay them than buy an impact.
  8. Just been out and serviced the CBF. Oil and filter, air filter and plugs. What was in there wasn’t too bad so it has been serviced in the last couple of years. I did an oil and filter change last year. Twas nice to be able the get the filter off with resorting to brutality Plugs were a fiddly pain the arse to do, can’t ever remember doing them on an inline 4. I had a blade years ago but I paid to have that serviced. Just the brakes to strip, clean and change fluid now. Gonna do that after the fork seals. I may do that later or in the morning. Just out of interest how many miles between plug changes do people do, don’t want to do it again in a hurry if I don’t have to
  9. All my kids are. But Shadow had the worst background by a country mile. Very few adopted kids come without issues sadly.
  10. Jury's still out on Shadows bike. I don't talk about her issues on here but she has stuff going on because of background, before us, and I'm not convinced I should empower her to be back on the road just yet. Also the insurance is a big question mark and out of my control. Of course she is my daughter and I want to do my best for her but that best may not be back on two wheels in a hurry, not that we have had that conversation yet. She is already making all sorts of threats about self harm because she has no bike, to the point that I'm taking leave from work this weekend to be around and home. I agree about the push bike I will get the Mrs on it to get rid.
  11. Been out sorting the shed, took one of the work benches down to fit Shadows bike in there. Also moved the pushbike to a safe location.
  12. Dunno, ours is pretty rough but must have a value I suppose. I will move it into another shed for safe keeping, My Mrs deal though I won't see anything from it
  13. She knows that but I don't think the gravity of the situation has hit her yet, not sure she will be able to get insurance. Her boyfriend (18) had a smack last year and his premium is £200 a month now.
  14. If anything it is worse now. Plenty of time to strip the valve cover and check out the timing chain definitively but I don't think it's that. I'm not going to touch it until I hear from the insurance people. Don't know if they will want to inspect it or not. EIther way I want to strip the forks and check the headstock before she goes out on it again. They look okay but I want to check them off the bike. . I don't know if they will cancel her insurance after a claim or not. I have told her to be prepare for weeks not days off the road. Give her time to get her head straight. Luckily she can walk to work, will put a crimp on her social life though. Needs new handlebars, levers, indicators and paint. Doable but getting tedious now. Bought her this earlier today bit late I suppose. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183006815366
  15. I've had better days, but she is home safe which I will settle for.
  16. What a fucking day, just got back from MIU with Shadow. She rear ended a car and went over the handlebars. Badly bruised shoulder and in a bit of shock but fundamentally ok, thank the lord she had all her protective gear on and had luck on her side. I don't know what's up with her at the moment that twice in two days, normally she has been a careful and safe rider but the last couple of days I don't know. Yesterday she hit gravel in the rain so there was mitigation but today she was stone cold 100% to blame. Bike is fixable as is the car she hit but she is going to be off the road for a few weeks at least. All reported and insurance details exchanged so we have to wait and see what happens next. I have had better days.
  17. I wouldn't know but it's a quality bit of kit. My Mrs bought it for my boy at a garage sale for £10, then took it away from him but I can't remember why.
  18. I was given it at work years ago when I had a Sukida SK125 which was an exact chinky copy of an old CG125. There were 3 of us with Identical bikes one was a Sukida another a Yamasaki and the third was a couple of years older called a Hongdu. That lad with the Yamasaki got a new seat under warranty and gave me that one. Here's the video I made to sell it after 5 years of use. Cost me £700 delivered in the box did 8k miles commuting then sold it for £400. !00% reliable in that time. Not bad for chinky chonky although it was fettled and serviced on the button. I genuinely regretted selling I grew quite fond of it although dog slow, but a genuine 100 mpg.
  19. Didn't Skorpian evolve into Akrapovic ?
  20. I got a few quid burning a hole, but I am tempted to save it towards another bike. Or the Mr's will want something. Need to get of the net really, plenty to be doing but no enthusiasm
  21. It's a Branded Land Rover push bike. Apparently they are valuable according to my Mrs. Whether we get anything for it or not is up to her I don't care. I may find another home for it, it's more barn find condition and I can't see why anybody would want it but then again I'm not a Land rover freak.
  22. To be honest as long as it's not anything that leads to mechanical doom I do care that much. Shadow can get used to the noise. Tis a tiny air cooled single always gonna have a noisy motor one way or another. I am pretty relieved it's not coming from the engine casing just the same, thanks for the tip, I don't know why I didn't think of it, I saw my dad doing it often enough back in the day. I will see if I can source a stethoscope or just buy one from Machine Mart as Buckster suggested.
