  1. Yeah, it's a great place. Been there a few times myself. Late May/early June, when the rhododendrons are in flower, the carriage drive is fantastic.
  2. I've stayed in Rothbury a couple of times too. A stones throw from Cragside.
  3. Erm....no........pissed?.........probably!
  4. One of my old customers retired many years ago from working in the hospital labs. I met him again at one of his old colleagues retirement dinner and he was telling me how he was spending his retirement welding stuff together and also cutting up other stuff with a plasma cutter that he'd acquired! He was as happy as a pig in shit! Bucket lists are not just places, but also "things"! Burn pits? Why not?
  5. Yeah, I've been near to RAF Boulmer, but there's so many castles and fantastic places to visit along that coast.
  6. We went to Tromso and the Lofoten Islands in Northern Norway just before all this Covid stuff kicked off. It was late February and chuffing cold, but I'd go back there again in a heartbeat! Brilliant place, bit expensive, but just stunning scenery!
  7. I used to service analysers in the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, so I'd head down early autumn and early spring for the routine services. A day to drive down, a day to service the analysers and a day to drive back, nice and leisurely.
  8. Oh, and I do like Cornwall too, but it's just too mad busy during the summer months. Fantastic outside of that, though.
  9. But there's still plenty of excellent places in the UK to visit, Clive. Northumberland is still one of my favourite places to visit. Must have been there 10 times over the years and I never get bored of the area.
  10. What places have you got on your bucket list to visit? Near or far, doesn't matter. I want to visit the Menin Gate and Oradour-sur-Glane as being discussed on another thread. What about you guys? Or even places you've been that you'd recommend to others?
  11. I can't remember any Mod called Dan on there Clive. There was Dano, but he was never a Mod? Apart from the obvious ones, the ones I knew were Roy, Dave and Techno.
  12. Nah, boulangerie doesn't open on Mondays, so I'd know if it was Monday.
  13. No names, but he eventually just drifted away from the forum.
  14. This fucking retirement business is doing my head in, Pete! I don't even know what day of the week it is now!
  15. Personally I think Pete is right to go through this process for selecting the mods. Folks get to vote on whose input on the forum they've seen reflects their expectations. I'm not sure that previous moderating experience is really that relevant, as other sites owners may have just appointed folks as moderators because they're mates. I think a few of us know of moderators that are completely unsuitable, but they're just there to kiss the forum owners arse! I think that all of the runners in this contest would do a good job, experienced moderators or not. You need mods who can work together to reach agreement on issues that may arise. The problem I had when I first started moderating on another forum was that one of the existing mods didn't like me and I wasn't too keen on him either, so we often struggled to reach agreement on issues because we had a completely different viewpoint! So, another thing to consider is, which of the nominees could you see being able to work together as a team? Just my Saturday afternoon musings.
  16. That was why I raised the point of having 3 votes, 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice. But I guess where does it end.
  17. Yes, and we'd need to have a lettuce as one of the options!
  18. Proportional representation.
