Sounds like a stuck float in the carb, so it's probably flooded now. You could try tapping the float bowl with the blunt end of a big screwdriver to see if that unsticks it. Otherwise you may need to remove the carb and check the float height and needle valve seat. Enjoy your ride and lunch anyway.
