Catteeclan Posted yesterday at 06:38 Share Posted yesterday at 06:38 I was fairly clued up 20 years ago playing with PCs but had Macs for a good while now. Decided to do a reinstall as my Mac has slowed and kept knocking off the wifi for no visible reason and having to restart. After loosing the hard drive in recovery I have now got it all working again but for some reason my hard drive is now 80gig short of the size it should be so can't load all my backed up data, maybe it was time for a sort out anyway. Nute Posted yesterday at 06:50 Share Posted yesterday at 06:50 A couple of years ago mine decided to have a go slow and do erratic things. I messed about with it for a bit but then the HDD failed. I managed to get someone to recover the data luckily, and I do back ups more frequently now….

I think that is the sign to get a new SSD quick smart.

YamaHead Posted yesterday at 14:16 Share Posted yesterday at 14:16 Apple products DO have their share of issues.... My CAD station machine is an absolute Dinosaur...but still works (knock on wood). I've been surfing etc. on a Google Chromebook for the last 7 yrs. with NO problems. I keep my important data on a 750 gig remote hard drive.

I did look into it a couple of years ago as I was offered some ram and plenty of vids available but that's as far as I got.
Buckster
I have a MacBook Air and it doesn’t have a hard drive, the memory is all solid state and on board.

Mine too first generation of un upgradeable Macs. Mine is a 2020 M1 Macbook Air and 5 years old, been used relentlessly and still just as good as they day I bought it, but apart from the battery pretty much unrepairable. I may be wrong but I don't see it lasting as long as the other Macs I have which will be a shame, but I suppose I shouldn't moan before I'm hurt. It's been a stunning bit of kit and still has an 18 hour battery life. I know that sounds abstract but I never have to charge it at work which is something older Macs and most current PC Lappy's can't match.
Catteeclan
This iMac is now 8 years old and been bullet proof so I don't mind spending a bit on it. Now it's has a reinstall it's as snappy as the day I got it. SSD and more Ram is on the cards.

Is you are going from HDD to SSD you are in for a pleasant surprise Also was going to say I regularly use my 2009 Macbook Pro at home. Still perfectly usable for most tasks. I like it cause it has loads of connectivity , a DVD drive, plenty enough capability for my music projects and a really nice screen. I have added more RAM, new battery and SSD but that is all its had in 16 years.
