Many years ago I did my DSC qualification with him - something you are encouraged to do if you want to start picking you own (deer). Everything we get here is fallow or roe deer, max maybe 75kg for fallow, so a different prospect to a moose. Must need a big bloody round to bring one of them down and not just piss it off. I was talking to a Finn last time I was there, they get allocated tags for moose. They apply for one at the start of the season and normally get only part of an animal, so this persons family of 5 had 1.5 moose between them. Thankfully we don't have any tag system here, you just shoot what you want as long as it's in season, but then we have a feck of a lot of deer.

It is rather like skiing. It does take a bit of time to learn, a bit like learning to ride a push bike all over again, but well worth once you have the hang of it. I used to put mine under the seat on the train ad get around London with it but like everything, as people want these things cheaper and cheaper and buy anything (electric scooters, skateboards etc) with shit no name chink batteries, then the my e-bike caught fire, these things are dangerous headlines started. EUC race in Spain. These things will do 50+ mph (depending on the type ) and are great fun, tho as with anything that's fun except sex in the UK, they are not legal. I got my first EUC in 2015. Back then you could ride about without the danger of being stopped by the rozzers. Sadly not the case now tho I do use mine around the village where I live as the local boys in blue don't seem to care here thankfully. Also good fun off road. My first one was a 500w motor but the current models have 3-4kw, the more power in the motor the less likely you are to over stretch the laws of physics and come off. Lean forward to go and lean back to stop. Racing like this is ideally suited to those who weigh 50lbs wet through, my 100kg would put me at rather a disadvantage.

I was in northern Finland a couple of months back, minus 30 C. Came home with a bit of frost nip on my nose. Quite happy with snow, put the bike away and get the snowmobile out. At least it’s not 6 months of dreary grey drizzle.

I’m somewhat antisocial, I’d love to live somewhere with few or preferably no other people. id just about persuaded my wife that moving to northern Finland on our retirement was a good idea, then this stupid bloody country had to go and vote for Brexit so that screwed that. Now I’m stuck in this overcrowded third world country. The best I’m going to get is to move out of the bottom right hand corner to somewhere a bit less crowded. At least when your kids have ridden a bike or even just done the CBT, if they then move to a car they will be a better and more considerate driver for having done so. I think everyone should do a few hours, something like the CBT, as part of car driver training. We’ d all be better for it.

We all have the same passport at present, if Scotland left the uk I can only imagine that those that lived there would get a new Scots passport. it’s unlikely to happen in my lifetime sadly. Before Brexit my intention was to retire to Finland but can’t do that now. But at least I can buy wine by the pint, so it must have all been worth it.

Not even 10 miles from the uk side of the tunnel, miles of contraflow, cones and average speed cameras. And we’ve just passed a fridge dumped by the side of the road. I so missed the UK.

Laax in Switzerland, last minute thing and was a case of wherever we could find a few days accommodation. Snow is so so, horrible at low levels, ok at the top. Staggeringly bloody expensive but you can’t take it with you…

Skiing … yay

I had the disks and pads replaced on all 4 wheels of a VW Toureg on Friday. It was painfully expensive. I’ve had it for the last 52k and this is the first set of pads I’ve put on it…I don’t use the brakes much

I had a butchers over mine today, need to clean and wax the chain on one tomorrow as its got some surface rust where I obviously washed the bike and forgot to do it. Need to take my pressure washer to bits to find out why its stopped pressuring and only does the washing bit.
