Maybe I am being negative, but I have doubts that her condition will improve much, her age and the Osteoporosis will continue to be a problem. Sorry to hear your wife is having health issues Clive, I hope she recovers OK and life gets as back to normal as it can. As above try adult social services and poss occupational health. We had to do it for my mum, they weren't perfect but they did help with various things to help her mobility. We had to buy a bed which can be raised and lowered tho. Some of the stuff is eye wateringly expensive. They were reasonably good with arranging home visits by a nurse to change dressings etc.

Everything is centralised at King's Mill hospital, the others in Mansfield, or close by in the surrounding area were closed down years ago (Forest hospital...Ransom hospital....Harlow Wood to name the few I know) King's Mill became part or the Sherwood Hospital trust, which includes Newark hospital. As to respite care, I ain't got a clue where someone would go, or even if they had a place for respite cases..
