Saul
It's a fuel injected GY6 engine, if it was carbed it would be easy to fix. It just dies like the tickover is set to low, no idle adjustment to be set. It's a basic fuel system really just nothing to adjust. Fuel pump is fine, injector is fine, I am suspicious of the throttle body but don't really know. Valve clearances are spot on but a fraction loose deliberately, excellent spark. I am guessing good compression as it goes as well as any 11BHP motor has a right to.

So it only dies at idle...runs fine when riding ?....personally I would do like Rich was saying..nothing a good stick of dynamite won't fix..lol There's no way to increase idle temporarily I suppose... He had been for a long ride to Tavistock and back and run out of fuel during the trip. It’s done 15,000 km and has only had oil changes whenever I do one of my bikes as there is always enough left over to do his ped. So the oil is always pretty clean. Apart from the first service I don’t think it has been touched otherwise. Anyway it was really difficult to start and wouldn’t tick over. Not an ideal situation in a twist and go. First thing I did was check the valves which were tight. Less than 0.005 mm when they should be between 0.010 - 0.015 mm I set them loose on the max measurement. It started fine then but would still not tick over. No idle screw that I could find (fuel injected ped) so I adjusted the cable to raise the idle enough so that it wouldn’t stall. All seems good now. Rideable at least so he can get to work. I’ve put a shot of Redex injection cleaner in the tank and will do it a few more times when he fills the thing. I have ordered a service kit for it which fuzz nuts will be paying me back for also I think it will need a new drive belt in the near future so I will look into that as well. Learning stuff about peds I never wanted to but if it keeps my useless boy in employment it sort of makes sense. I have the bike he needs Saul … treat the boy 2

It runs absolutely fine just dies at idle. Only way to increase the idle is to adjust the throttle cable to keep the butterfly open a fraction like an idle screw would. It's what I have done and it seems to be fine at the moment but I don't think it's an ideal fix. The sad thing is Fuzz Nuts has had this Ped from new and it's been a good servant, but not looked after. The only reason it has not blown the motor is I change the oil every time I service one of my bikes. Other than that it's not touched. He expects me to pay for it to be serviced, but he can feck off, the piss taking twat earns more than I do. I don't mind helping, if asked, but I am not good with teenage attitude, I could go on but won't

I bought the Ped for £2500 for him, gave him a grand towards it and it took him 3 years to pay me back the rest. Bank of dad is closed to him.

Saul
1 hour ago, Buckster said: Probably should have been the first thing to check, that none of us thought about. I don't think there can be much in the tank, I will of course check and do have a low mileage second hand fuel pump to put in just to rule out the current one failing, parts are pretty cheap for these things second hand. Also I cleaned up stream from the injector but not the tank so it does need doing. Only thing that is expensive is the throttle body and CDI unit. I am going to do the drive belt and variator first though just in case that is causing drag, enough to stall the bike at very low revs. And seeing it should have been done at 6k and the Ped is on 12k tells me it would be smart to do. Lean't allsorts about these fecking things the last few weeks. I wish I had gone with my convictions and bought him a second hand Honda ped or cub type thing in the first place. His mother insisted he had something new but in the long term I reckon he would have been better off with an Innova 110 or something of that ilk. But what the fuck would I know. Buckster
Probably worth checking the fuel line and if there is a filter then swap that as well.
