I'd disagree with that. I ride on my own and in groups and you can still have some great fun with a bunch of mates. In the Alps it would nearly always turn into an unofficial race at times or seeing who can get around a hairpin bend the quickest with grounding your panniers on the deck

Is that river fordable Russ ? there looks like there's a rough ramp leading down to it ?
