Not really related to the subject, but a good illustration on how quickly things were developing at that period of time!
  3. Depends on the healthcare service there. If it's non malignant, then it could be that he has Green Light Laser surgery, to remove some of the excess prostate material. There are other treatments too, so he may be offered them instead. My urologist here was dead against just leaving it and trying to treat it with drugs, as he said that it could eventually damage the bladder muscles. It could also lead to kidney damage and other infections. My surgery was one year ago now and I wish that I'd had the opportunity to have it done sooner!
  4. I'm not a doctor, but I had the same thing and my doctors and specialists in the UK were quite happy for me to keep getting up to pee several times a night and keep taking a mixture of drugs, which helped, but not completely. On seeing my first doctor here, he immediately referred me to a Urologist. The urologist sent me for an MRI and a couple of ultrasound scans and monitored my PSA over a year or so, then suggested that I should have the laser surgery to remove some of the prostate material. His warning was that trying to pee past the restriction caused by the enlarged prostate was likely to cause damage to the bladder muscles, which was likely to result in urinary incontinence eventually. So, leaving the swollen prostate was more likely to result in incontinence than removing some of the excess prostate material. But, operations cost money...............!

When I was working in electronic design and development at my first company, circa 1984, someone donated an old DEC PDP 11 computer to us to play with. It was the size of a small wardrobe, with the magnetic reel-to-reel tape reader. It had a pcb which had 1kB of ferrite core memory, which was about 12" square! It was a fairly early one, from about 1974!
  6. Yeah, he really should have got seen to a bit sooner. They should test his PSA!
  7. It's due to be displayed from 2026 to 2028, so you'll have to keep your outrage in check for another 2 years? Personally, the chances of me visiting Trafalgar Square during that period will be pretty remote, so I won't be losing any sleep over it! Just in case anyone is interested: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-68565332
  8. You're over there on your bike then?
  9. I can't watch that pair! They did a video where they were moaning about the cost of riding in Europe, then it transpires that they went all the way to Rome and back on motorways. He got a puncture on his Africa Twin, but wasn't carrying any spare tubes or tools! So, his bike had to be recovered and an Italian mechanic managed to muster up in inner tube that just about fitted! At least, that's how I remember it!
  10. We went to a little bike show in Narbonne yesterday afternoon. It wasn't huge, but there were a good selection of bikes to look at and sit on. It was local bike dealers, rather than manufacturers displaying the bikes. Mandy is interested in the new Triumph 400X, so she had a sit on one, which is slightly on the tall side for her, but not ridiculous. They had the old Himalayan there, which she sat on, but the dealer said that they're getting the new one in fairly soon. She had a sit on the Ducati Scrambler 800, which she also liked. It made quite a nice few hours out, and Mandy is now fired up to get back out on her bike too!
  11. I used to quite like that game. If I was going out for a ride, but couldn't decide where, I'd pick a few of the tags and do a circuit to find them. When I did my tour of Wales it was guided by some of the tags. I went to places that wouldn't have otherwise known. I was never going to complete the challenge, but I did visit a few interesting places on the bike.
  12. Just been educating some French people in the art of the English language! It's only when you try to teach someone else, that you realise how weird English is! And then try to explain what a doer is, or why read can mean "to read" or "have read"......yes, it's spelled the same, but pronounced differently! Or how to pronounce queue.....yes, just ignore how it's spelled, think of it as kew.....what? That doesn't help?
  13. I think that you mean Cortizone injections Lionel, but we know what you mean. Unfortunately they didn't help my right knee, but the doctor over here then gave me a course of Hyaluronic acid injections into the joint and they've been good for nearly 3 years now. I get the occasional twinge in my knee, but before those injections the pain would keep me awake at night! Good luck, chap.

Exactly, @Clive! There's more to it than just semantics!
