Old Railway Station in El Hijate

Continuing on my search for abandoned railway stations located on the old GSSR route (closed in 1985) I was planning to visit Tijola today.

But looking at the map I realised I hadn't done El Hijate yet, despite having done the stations before and after it.

So I thought I'd better pick that one up before I get further into Almeria itself.

Here's the map so far......the green spots are where I've already been.

In the interests of authenticity I managed to locate an old photo of El Hijate station in what appears to be around the 1950's.

That was then.....

And this is now....

Read on for Rugged Individualism!

Of the stations I've done so far this is the smallest. It's also the one in the worst condition by far!

This is the Via Verde (Greenway).....I'd like to have ridden up that! But there's big fines for motorised vehicles accessing them! Hikers, Spandex twats on bicycles no problem!

Initially the building itself doesn't seem too bad.......

Then you look inside.......

Couple of outbuildings are not much better......

Then it was clamber over bushes and banks to get back to the Strom before the place collapsed on top of me!

Magnum ! Is he still on the lam?

He's been in either Canada or US for over 10 years now Rog.

Let's just say he had to leave Spain quickly! :classic_laugh:
