  1. While waiting for someone with a compressor to be available I removed the SAS and the EPC fittings from the bike, cleans up the look without all those hoses going everywhere and doing nothing, was very satisfying, tell you what though, its rather cool on the garage, bloody 17C, I am writing a stern letter to the Prime Minister about it. Found a pic of the garage before I tidied it up, looks much better now. And a bonus moose of a size that Marcel can probably handle withoput to much assistance from Billy Bob. Why would I disable the EPC system? The EPC system reduces engine performance in 2nd/3rd gear and is only there to meet emissions requirements. Why would I disable the SAS? The SAS works together with the catalytic converter in the exhaust cans, also to reduce emissions. If you have aftermarket cans it is pointless and can cause problems. Removing the SAS is not recommended with standard cans. Why would I remove all of this stuff rather than just disable it? Because it is unnecessary, ugly, messy, restricts access to the engine, and because it is something else to go wrong, something else you won't have to consider if you do have problems. The repair manual actually warns that the EPC valves will malfunction if they are exposed to vibration.
  2. "In searching for a common enemy against whom we can unite, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill. In their totality and their interactions these phenomena do constitute a common threat which must be confronted by everyone together." Moon

Once again you're putting words in my mouth, I never said that or even intimated it, for all I know you may all be in the top 1%, unless of course you believe that man walked on the Moon that is. No no, not this Moon, the other one.
  5. More on the brakes, here are the calipers that are ready for piston removal, the pistons are numbered but you can't see that, after much searching I have found the method of getting them out with compressed air, put a G Clamp on one piston and wrap an old rag around the other, pop one out and then reverse the procedure, sounds easy on paper but should work without damage or injury. I have found a bearing supply company in the area (100k's away) that has seals so I hope that they can match up the ones in the calipers, the KTM parts fiche says no stock so here's hoping that they are not a special size.
  6. No, it's a one piece that has the fuel pump mounted in a cavity and it has two tongs that slide onto a couple of rubbers, it takes two people to get the damn thing off.
  7. It takes that long to get the tank off.
  8. Marcel, is your new avatar a woman taking a shit ?

  9. So back in the garage to do a few things, now that I'm on top of the brakes I went and changed over the rusty fasteners on the engine for nice S/S ones, looks a lot better, when they package these kits they must throw in a handful of this and a handful of that as I have lots of extras, maybe as I progress I'll find places to put them but so far can't see where they may go, maybe as I get further into the engine spots will turn up especially when I pull off the EPA stuff, that's a whole bunch of plumbing that's in the way and is no longer needed. Removed the airfilter for the very first time in its life, only done 43,000 k but looks filthy with what I guess is oil from the crankcase breather, anyway the new one looks very nice and should enhance the new pipes performance, as well I have a jetting kit for the mods but don't know if I'll fit it, never done carbs before and don't want any mystery surprises, maybe get the local bike mechanic or someone to do them, so with pipes, carbs, hi flow air filter and new plugs it should be quite peppy, there are two removable triangular covers on the airbox (you can see one in the second photo) as well as the snorkel so that should enhance the induction roar, haha, that and the new cans, things are getting exciting. So at Marcels request here's a few photos of the bike in its house.

  11. Damn right, imagine what the Harleys pipes would be without a protective atmosphere, what would they be on the Moon ?
  12. Apart from the radiation there is also the heat. The thermosphere is a region of very high temperature that extends from the top of the mesosphere at around 85 kilometers up to 640 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. It is called the thermosphere because temperatures spike to thermal levels Temperatures are highly dependent on solar activity, and can rise to 2,000 °C (3,630 °F). Radiation causes the atmosphere particles in this layer to become electrically charged (see ionosphere), enabling radio waves to bounce off and be received beyond the horizon. In the exosphere, beginning at 500 to 1,000 kilometres (310 to 620 mi) above the Earth’s surface, the atmosphere turns into space. The highly diluted gas in this layer can reach 2,500 °C (4,530 °F) during the day. But the guys had watercooled spacesuits, hahahaha.
  13. Good answer, Christianity was introduced to China during the Tang dynasty in the seventh century, probably by Syriac missionaries of Nestorian Christianity who traveled the Silk Road, the religion did not gain a wide foothold until Jesuit missionaries arrived in the 16th century. Looks like the Jesuwits tagged along later to try and flummox the ancient seers.
  14. Hey there Buckster , got a question for you, after Marco Polo travelled through Asia for 21 years (where he invented shirts and breath mints) why did the church have him jailed on his return, was it because he had found an advanced ancient civilisation that knew nothing about Jesus and the Bible and the church felt that their franchise was threatened or was it because he was drunk ? Answers on a postcard.
  15. Nasa admits that we can't leave low Earth orbit, we can't do it now so how did they do it then, its the radiation belts. D'oh. By the way take a look at this and explain it, especially after seeing the green screen in the shuttle segment in the video I just posted.
