The water must be pretty clean or you wouldn’t get the amount of wildlife on and around the river that we saw but the rules are catch and release. The point of barbel fishing is that they fight so hard once hooked, very exciting and you might not see what you have hooked for quite a while.

Yes I agree with you you...a good foot wide plate welded between the rails would have been the ultimate perfect job...but I got lazy..lol....just didn't care to pull out the welder crawling underneath with a foot of clearance underneath...

Funnily enough pre season we used to play what we called 70’s football which was basically just kicking/tripping/elbowing the shit out of each other. Was a bloody hoot. Almost a relief to get back to rugby training after.
