  1. France runs 220v, mostly between 8 and 13 amps. At work I have 16A. but most professional or industrial installations are 3 phase, so at work I run ( for example) the power outlets on the port with 3 outlets one on each phase, but then I also have one 3 phase socket on each post which gives 380v. Don't ask me how they get 380 from 3 x 220, I'm a complete numpty at electmatrickery.
  2. When I'm out with bro in law ( locked in syndrome, just about manages to pilot his lectric wheelbarrow... sorry, wheelchair ) people often ask if I'm his carer. their attitude towards him changes subtley when I tell them I'm actually his bodyguard... It also cracks him up which is hilarious cos he doesn't control his mouvements well when he's laughing and ends up running into stuff
  3. probably why you fit in so well...
  4. indeed, but he is being rude so by using the "Tu" from he is signifying his refusal to use the "vous" as that would imply respect. I learnt my french originally from a french Bike club, and still sometimes have to be careful in polte company
  5. good luck with it Pete. It'll put the kybosh on the NL gig for the timebeing though I guess?
  6. Canadian French is to french what Chaucer is to English... language from the 14th century. I believe they can pretty much understand Cajun french too.
  7. "Americans are the international pirates of language and, as such, should be hung, en masse, from specially strengthened yardarms" I just can't remember who the quote is from
  8. erm... the one place she doesn't want to go to learn English, is the US.
  9. wondering which of the two accents is easier to understand... probably Eninburgh too
  10. Why I would be asking for advice from you lot I have no idea, but here goes; N01 daughter has been given the opportunity to study in the UK for 6 months next year at some point. We were hoping that Warwick was oing to be an option cos I have family not too far away which is always reassuring, but she has been offered Liverpool or Edinburgh, either of which I know vey little about having only visited either of them by boat for a 24h stopover. Anybody any toughts or suggestions?
  11. The one bonus of having children old enough to drive!
  12. any corroberating sources? I have no clue who the person posting that is and she doesnt cite her sources, the fact that it is not in the mainstream media is not in itself a proof of reliability. I dont trust the mainstream media either by the way as they all without exception have their own agenda and bias which dictates their interpretation of events.
  13. maybe I'm confusing it with tiktoktwat or whatever it's called.

great pics Yen, that first one is a corker!
  15. Nope But I know all the professional Youtoobers are desperate for us all to follow them on twitter as well as sign up for their U-teube channels and I'm damn certain they wouldn't bother if they didn't make money from it. there's already been a plethora of fake photos and info on farcebuke so why should twatter or slapcat or any of the other social media plateforms be any different?
  16. OH FFS! the worse the news the more likes and followers you get, the more money you can make. make stuff up, fuck it if it makes me money its good right?
  17. yep, it even has a "Museum of middle ages technicalProgress" which alleges to chronicle the progress of technical inventions through the middle ages. https://www.burgundy-tourism.com/sit/chateau-de-faulin
  18. stop watching the bloody news, their income increases with viewing figures and those figures increase with fear and angst. That is a basic conflict of interest, tell the truth factually and honestly or earn more money and prestige by embellishing it with menace and threat using words like " violate" "threatened" and "repercussions".
  19. 2 hours and a bit doing a southwards loop using almost exclusively minor backroads. temps were around 10 to 12deg with 7/10ths cloud cover and almost no wind. a chateau that you,ve seen before , Chateau de Faulin, built in the 15th century. Main difference between a !5th century French chateau fort and an english 15th century castle? look closely at the tower on the right The arrow slits are horizontal. Adapted for crossbow use rather than the english longbow which needed vertical slits. ( I know you really needed to know that and will all sleep better for knowing it ) and a very enjoyable 2 hours it was!
  20. sooner or later yes, but don't tell anyone I agreed with you ok?
  21. s'funny how none of these "predictions" were ever bandied about before the events themselves. They are also ALWAYS negative. ( they are also ALWAYS absolute bollox, but that's just my opinion)
  22. never had an automatic before so can't really compare ( though have driven plenty of autos with flappy ears or tiptronic boxes but couldn;t really see the point. I CAN see the point howevr if you're gettting into 4WD and diff lock situations where I wouldn't want an automatic at all. I haven't yet driven the CVT in a mountainous region so can't say how effective it is, except that wth the hybrid version, the electric motor recuperates energy from the wheels to recharge the batteries which makes the engine braking more apparent than most auto boxes.
