Is that him? How old is he now?

70 or 71 I think. It's his birthday next week. That picture is a bit iffy in the colour department (or my eyes are) cos he is a ginge, we have to keep him out of the sun. Whenever photographed he cannot help but strike a 1970's catalogue pose, he doesn't even know he's doing it. It's a bit of a running joke so this is the card I made on Moonpig for him.

  2. At 5 minutes and 21 seconds in that video you will see a bloke in the 59 club who looks like Donald Trump in a leather jacket. That is Ted and today he turned up on his Honda Dullville and was showing me some pictures from old holidays we have been on as a group that he has dug out whilst bored in lock down.

  3. I'm off to non 'working from home' work in the morning. Going to meet my Irish and Hispano/Caribean chaps at one of the storage depots with my trusty tape measure to look at big concrete blocks and posts to see if they will be fine to hold up some large signs for the re-opening of the Recycling Depot to the great unwashed which we will be installing on Tuesday. This is to make all the local people arrive from the same direction and queue like civilised people.............. No fear of that, it will be like The Hunger Games on Steroids. Hopefully the signs will turn up later tomorrow before I leave work so I can check to make sure they don't say something like 'REESICLING DEPOH PLEEZE FOLOE AROES'  and make me look like a twat.

Then it's a quick dash to the office to print out some setting out drawings for Wednesday and an OS base sheet. I shall hiss at anyone who approaches me and queue for the single toilet between 50 of us. Then off to some roads where I have to design some old bollocks to temporarily make the footpaths wider in a couple of market areas which I got given on Friday afternoon and they want on Monday night. This I will sketch on to the OS base before drawing it up when I get back home in the evening, only then realising my handwriting is rubbish and mostly unreadable. Then It's off to a new building site to measure up a temporary crossing for cranes and shit so I can price it and send them a letter demanding money with menaces.

Then shoot over to another road to make sure Parking have put up suspension signs so I can swap some parking bays to the other side of the road on Friday. I have upset Parking last week so there is a chance they will play silly buggers with me as a punishment, or give me a foot way parking ticket again. Then marking out some new islands because we are being allowed to carry out any site work that takes less than 3 days and if I mark it out tomorrow I won't have to get up early on Wednesday when they want to start smashing holes in the road and want to know where all the power supplies are coming from/going in.

Then 50 miles back home on lovely twisty country lanes because the weather report is glorious for tomorrow!!!!

  4. My car is £260 a year, my bike is £91. I think the bike tax is fucking disgraceful, I'm doing the country a favour using a bike to commute to work and that's how they repay me. It comes to something when motorbike tax is higher than insurance.

I flushed the cooling system on my old Africa Twin this week, when i drained the expansion tank it stayed blue up to the high level line so wouldn't have known if it was low just by looking at it. I started thinking of ways i could clean it, went through the wife's cleaning cupboard and after trying a few different detergents unsuccessfully i found this stuff

    IMG_9283.thumb.JPG.2f035c5f0e9c82c4d109b0097b1e180e.JPG

Its quite a coarse power so got an idea of how it might work, poured some into the expansion tank added some hot water and spent the next few minutes shaking it vigorously and to my surprise the stain started to disappear flushed it out with hot water and repeated the process. I think i got a good result with it, i just wish i had a before photo to show how bad it was.

I think I had my AT about 5 years before I realised there is an inspection hole under the rear mudguard to check the expansion tank level. I used to take the side panel off.

  6. Or this, Flemmy and Motorhead!

I was singing this at work in the scrap yard, I think I was about 19. I sang, "I'm a lone wolf ligger
But I ain't no pretty boy" just as the foreman Tony walked past. He immediately turned and said, "That's right Yen, you're an ugly fucker"

I should mention that when Lemmy died I was hoping he'd do the riding his bike up out of the grave as per the video as part of a re-release publicity stunt!

This is possibly the worst rock video involving motorcycles that there's ever been! It goes back to 1982.

While the American vids of the time had big budgets and stunning fit birds.....this Brit one must have cost about a tenner!

The birds look like cheap hookers who they just found down the bus station.....and even the bikes look like they've come from the scrapyard!

    How about this one then?

  8. I reported a 100 loose sheep outside my father in laws house at 2am. Their bleating woke me up and look out of the window. I was worried they would go down the steps to the A40 which is in  a cutting next to the road his house was in. No mobile phones and he didn't have a house phone. I waded through through the mob of stupid sheepy things, down to the phone box at the top of the lane and rang the Welsh Police ( Heddlu?). I walked back down the dead end lane (see GSV link) and there was not a single sheep to be seen. I walked down the steps to the A40, not a sign of the little fuckers. As I came back up into the lane the police car pulled up and I had to break the news I had lost them

I thought I was going to be arrested for wasting police time and given a beating with a rubber hose. Turned out they had all somehow wedged into one of the tiny back gardens!!! They were all gone by the time I woke up!

  9. I lived in Germany from just after my birth until I was 5 and my brother was born there as my dad was an RAF Policeman and it was vital that he extracted the brill cream boys from the German pubs on a Friday night in case of a Russian invasion over the weekend. The rest of the time he was a dog handler, so we shared the house with a hulking great Alsatian called 'Bruce'!

When my brother was in his early 20s his employer wanted him to travel to somewhere in Europe, but he had a lot of trouble getting a British passport because of not being born in the UK.

I nearly knocked Guy Martin off his paddock push-bike once. He apologised! Does that count?

I had a wee at the next urinal with him last year I think it was. He was riding a super long chopper (a motorcycle, not his todger) around a speedway track against a load of other stretched out bikes.

I have also raced against Chris Walker and James Toesland in a fun Enduro run by a friend of mine. The idea was you shared a bike with another person and took turns riding and could swap at any time, they were a team together. I only came 10 places behind them, which sounds good but I should point out there were only 11 teams.  I was on my DR350, my mate did the first lap, came back all purple faced and breathless then when I jumped on and tried to ride off I discovered the gear lever was all curly shaped. He insisted he hadn't fell off.

    You're a mindreader Ian........cos he's the next target!

Apparently Yen likes finding people so he's doing some searching!

Pete has given me a full briefing, he's called Bill, he lives or lived somewhere near New York. I have narrowed it down to about 30 million citizens. Does anyone else have any other information, I could do with a bit more, I don't even remember him clearly on the old forum???? User names on other forums, other places he was on etc. A full name and address would be good too.

When they do allow you to enjoy your hollidays, if you're able to rent a bike in Portimão you can enjoy some really nice roads and views nearby

Hope so, no idea if I'll get any money back for the holiday, more likely to get a voucher for a rebook so i could still make it out to the land of the sardine.

    Welcome, Ian me old mate.

    Howdo matey,

I should have been in Portugal last week but British Airways didn't want to fly there for some reason. I think I was going to be in a place called Praia da Rocha just outside Portimão. I was in Albufeira a few years ago and discoverd that Cliff Richard has got a street named after him there. I could only get a scooter there, all the proper bikes were out on hire!

Yo Yen, good to hear from you again, I last spotted you in Wiltshire behind a pub ?

That was a while ago now, I was on my Varadero. I think I have seen you at Peterborough since then, but that may be out of order, I get confused easily.

So Art's still digging dirt, Buck really has got a HD, unless it's someone else's, Rens got a triumph sandwiched between the normal ZRXs.
Yen, is that the same Versys you got all that time ago?
Pedro, that's a shit pot heavier than the trusty XR you had. What was in-between?

Yes, bought it new in Feb 2015 so it is 5 and a small bit years old. Waiting to sell a house still, the lock down hit me mid conveyancing, then I am getting a new bike.

  16. My current Versys which is about 70 miles short of a 100,000 miles and not a chance to ride it at the moment unless they call me back from working at home.

My non running 107,000 mile Africa Twin that I will be flogging off for spares when the world settles down. Had to pump the tyres up to get it outside to photograph. Been standing for about 9 years I reckon.
