  1. Nice looking dog. Hmm labradors, the dustbin dog and she looks like she ate all the pies
  2. Valium is a drug given during a fit to stop it. An up the bum emergency only measure. Not generally given as a full time med. But in humans it was only done if the fit was a cluster fit ie it doesn't stop, it can be given IV but I’m sure you can imagine trying give intravenous drugs while someone is fitting is not the easiest thing and definitely not dog friendly.
  3. Looks desolate. Bet that makes for a calming vibe.
  4. Thanks to the folk asking about the demented one. It was easier than I thought. Initially flailing around in denial but then acceptance that we need to rule dementia out as “a possibility” Things are borderline. One more notch down and we’ll be moving into ‘danger to self and others’ territory. It’s GP time. That is not conversation I ever want to have again, but she has memory loss so I will won’t I, many times Whilst driving up there I received a text, as I was driving I didn't read it but saw the header saying it’s Jo’s sister. I thought Oh Jo is dead. She stroked big style two years ago, full locked in vegetable level. Arrive, read the text. Nope she’s still alive but barely. “We can only find one will from 20 years ago and you may not be aware you are named executor.” WTAF she didn't ask me or mention it and they live 4 hours away. I don’t think you should be able to appoint an executor without informing them. Its not the sort of thing thats a lightweight five minute job is it! Anyway they just moved her to end of life care so it’s all great fun at the moment! So much to do I’m fighting the urge to hide!
  5. Poor thing. Do dogs get Valium (diazepam) for a fit like humans do? Or is the idea of shoving a pessary up a dogs arse something that no-one dares suggest?
  6. Given up and the day off gonna, cook lots and block out dealing with my demented mother for a bit! Experimental kitchen time here I come!
  7. Right time to pack n leave. Wish me luck, I’m gonna feckin need it!
  8. I have read that but I know almost zero about trichology!
  9. 81, 82 or 83 is plenty old enough for anyone isn’t it? How long does any one of us want to spend in old age?!!
  10. Well most Europeans live to 77 for men and 83 for women with dementia diagnoses setting in at a staggeringly early 45- 65 The earlier the diagnoses the worse the prognosis.
  11. You put in time and thats very cool. I think if you’re new it’s the only easy way into it.
  12. Oh ok it’s where you start. They know all the trails and cater for different abilities right down to starter. https://www.trf.org.uk
  13. So feckin awful I cant stop laughing
  14. Hmm dunno Fred looks like a large frame with lean working muscle. You look like a large frame with dense muscle. Weight wise thats not the same thing! Also you need to go to your local TRF thats where the fun will be!
  15. I reckon not. No judgement, I love mine but they are a PITA
  16. You sound like someone who has no kids?
  17. Its ok I found a cure for all of it
  18. Yes simply because everyone is living longer. If everyone lived long enough then everyone would get some form of dementia.
  19. I dunno I think a bike and the TRF might be a good thrill route. You’ve played rugby for a long time so your coordination will be good. Plus you do know how to fix a bike. I was really shocked the fist time I saw Mr Slowly on an off road bike not that long ago. He had almost zero experience (apart from a little bike when he was 13 that was stolen within a year and never replaced) but he shifted his weight and reacted to what was in front of him like someone who had ridden for yonks. Tbh I was a little jealous Give it a go. You might get the fix you’re after. It’s definitely good for your head.
  20. We are close in our own way. We were brought up to never hold back, shown that complete honesty even if brutal is the only way to go. Consequently things can blow up to the highest level very quickly but it does generally mean we always know where the other ones coming from and what they think, normally it’s resolved pretty quickly. Personally I think it’s a great way to be because everything is out in the open. I see other families relationships where they tend to quietly seethe and it’s just not good. I’ve watched a 1000 different variations of dementia over the years and it’s always awful. There’s resentment from the ‘child’ thats doing the majority of the leg work and mistrust from the ones who aren’t there doing the work but feeling the need to intervene and be included whilst wondering if they are being swindled or frozen out. All whilst watching a person slowly die, and they lose them twice. I’ll be damned if I’m going to lose them in this process so if I’m going into this hellfire, they are coming with me!
  21. Brother no 1 has managed a 180 pivot and is now saying he’s going to get lasting power of attorney. I’ve explained dementia can fracture families and collaboration n complete transparency is the only way to go. He seems on board with that. So good Her friend sounds to me more like she is upset about losing her to fading mental capacity but apart from her driving I don’t think she’s a danger to herself or others.. yet! God lunch tomorrow is gonna be ‘orrible, if you hear in the news about a freak tornado, thunder and lightning etc over Buckinghamshire tomorrow that’ll be her causing it
  22. Well my day has got a bit shitty and tomorrow will be even shittier. My Dad won’t go and see how my mums doing because his dog has a heart condition- yep that really is his final excuse. Brother number one who I generally have a very good relationship with got nasty and told me I should take care of all of it as he can’t/won’t so I think we have now fallen out as he has not replied to my text asking whats up. Brother number two who I reconciled with only a few weeks ago has said he’s prepared to share the care burden and we are going to see her tomorrow so thats something. Except my little bro who is prepared to share the burden is in her bad books for no real reason other than she doesn’t like his wife (he rang her yesterday 9 times, text her 3 times and got no reply) so when we turn up tomoz it’s going to seem like an ambush. I rang her yesterday and she sounded confused but functioning and has had a “big argument” with her bestie, they are no longer talking. She wouldn't say why but I know this is because the bestie was going to try and tell her how it is and theres absolutely no way she’ll accept it, if you dare broach the subject of forgetfulness she gets very aggressive. I’m going to have to do a dementia assessment without her catching on and she’s somehow both demented and sharp so whoopie they’ll be no Happy Sunday post from me tomoz Oh and just for a little icing on the cake it’s a 4 1/2 hour round trip that is likely the first of many for someone that none of us like. Right I’m off to converse with her concerned friends to see if they are overreacting or she is truly a danger to herself.
