Not an assumption......we've already talked about it! And his wife is a lovely girl who has elderly parents as well......77 and 69. She's very family oriented. Obviously I'm assuming that I check out first based on the fact that I'm nearly 8 years older than her. Plus, women live longer than men. However.....her family's medical history is not as good as my family's. Lot of cancer her side, none on mine. The wife has always said I'd outlive her, and after all these years (besides my Hernia) I'm still in pretty good shape for my age. Whereas she's had health issues for over 10 years now. But I've told her that should I be the last one standing I'll be staying here! Sounds a bit morbid but at our stage of life we have to have those conversations.

She could stay here forever, but she'd have a problem with her limited mobility. Plus, it wouldn't be right for her to be on her own in her old age! So that's why an NL escape route is very important! We can't depend on our boy in Madrid, so it has to be the younger one in NL.

It's an involved bureaucratic process that goes on for years.....and involves passing Language exams and general knowledge of Spain exams. I could piss through the exams (wife couldn't though) but at nearly 70 I can't be arsed with that shit!

No.....I am a British citizen with a British passport, same as you. I have Permanent Resident status which means I can stay here indefinitely, that is not the same as citizenship. Spain doesn't allow dual citizenship, so I would never give up my UK passport! Because legally I would not be Welsh anymore. I can never do that! Ever! But who knows if Welsh Independence is in our future? That would be my ideal outcome!
