Out with the Dear Maid for lesson two today.   Nothing exciting just a few loops of the rugby club car park.   She did reasonably well but dropped it a couple of times which knocked her confidence a little but it is bound to happen.   Kept forgetting to de clutch as she came to a halt and was dragged over. Few tears but she is fine now, the bike was owned by a newbie before her so nothing scratched that wasn’t already.  Still working on her clutch control but it’s coming.    I was hoping to get her doing figure of eights today but that can wait.   There is no rush.
I am limiting the lesson to 45 minutes so that she doesn’t get too stressed.
All about confidence with her.   Shame she didn’t grow up with a shitbox old dirt bike to learn in a field but that sort of thing is rare nowadays.

It looks like she's enjoying herself.

Not made at all like what's on the 1290 now...it's got a solid lead going to coil and unplug further up by the tank...

Thanks for that, I have been on a voyage of discovery on this one, here is one of the pencil coils, Denso # 129700 4571, to remove them safely there is a hole somewhere around where the head gasket is, if the coil is stuck spray a penetrating product in the hole, leave it for a while then hit it with compressed air and it will pop out like a brake piston, woohoo.

That's know as a pencil coil. That's what used now instead of the HT lead and cap.
How many miles you done on this bike?

Should pull out after unplugging and could well be tight. Also known to be a basted if rust has got into it as it expands and locks itself in place.

Had a few out in bits.

Well I never had them on my 55 Speed Twin.

    It hit the spot.

  5. Calipers are done, forgot to take photos but its a pair of calipers, the pistons cleaned up nicely and slid in like a Welsh shepherd getting into a well oiled gumboot.

Next episode will be when the VHT cast aluminium paint arrives and once painted I can fit the pads and bolt them onto the bike, then a quick bleed and the major hurdle is out of the way.

Started to remove the radiator, the fins are a bit flattened in one area so I thought I'd lay it flat and smooth them out with a skewer but I'm not so keen to remove bits if I can avoid it.

I have unbolted it to move it forward to get at the front sparking plug so I might do the plugs first, they have a connector on them I've never seen before and I wonder what is the best way to take it off.

Don't want to damage it as it would probably take a year to get a replacement.

So here you go, calipers, one ready for paint, spark plug cap and damage to the radiator, as it doesn't leak I thought of giving it a quick spray.

    Wouldn't worry me.......we don't have a bus in this town! :classic_laugh:

We only have school buses, no public transport at all, it keeps out the riff raff, and no fast food either, I was at the local government office yesterday and there was a new girl there, she is a Polynesian Princess, about 300lbs and expanding, she told me that it was her first day and that she went to get a delivery of McDonalds and found that the nearest Maccas was 30 k's away, she was a little distraught about that but being a trooper she told me that she would just walk (waddle) down to the bakery, small town life, ain't it grand.

He is being careful not to come to the attention of “them”.

They called Ned Kelly a highwayman but he had nothing on these carnts, I heard from a Federal cop that a friend of mine knew that when they go into police training the low IQ ones go into traffic and I believe it.

Another thing here is that if you get a speeding ticket they can suspend your bus permit.

Sacrilege using a bike like that for just cruising around, you need to get yourself a scooter

I was getting around 7000 k's per rear tyre and they were worn at the edge so there's that, where I am now there aren't any corners but lots of highway robbers so like a dignified elder I just pfaff about.

Not saying there was a prob but knowing what happens with the composite pistons a stainless option I'd have thought would be a longer lasting fix.

I've polished a few marked pistons up myself to get them going again too.

I found stainless pistons on eBay here, a set would cost me £365 or 10% of the sales value of the bike so I think that I'll pass.
